Before you go sobbing, watching the new Fifty Shades and drowning yourself in wine, remember, being single on Valentine’s Day is not too bad. In fact, it’s pretty f*cking awesome. Here are five reasons why Valentine's Day isn't the worst for all the single ladies.

1. It’s a great excuse for a girls night out.

While many girls feel like sitting on their couch with a box of chocolate all night, I say it’s the perfect night to get up, get fleeky, and go out with your best friends. There’s no better way to celebrate being single than with your girlfriends.

2. One word; chocolate.

Who needs a boyfriend to give them a box of chocolate when there’s the nearest CVS? In fact, we all win the golden ticket on Valentine’s Day; there’s chocolate, everywhere. So, grab your friends and every box of chocolate you see. Calories are a lot more fun when consumed with your girl friends anyways!

3. No need to post that classic boyfriend Instagram.

While many people think social media should be off limits for single people on V-Day, I say it’s the perfect opportunity for sarcastic humorists like myself to get together and laugh at all the sappy boyfriend posts on Instagram--maybe we’re really laughing at ourselves, but that’s okay.

4. No need to panic about buying the perfect present.

While many people scramble to find the perfect gift for their significant others, all those who are single can relax and watch the chaos. If anything, treat yourself with those shoes you’ve been obsessing over!

5. A reminder you don’t need anyone but yourself.

While it initially may suck waking up to spending yet another Valentine’s Day alone, it really is not the end of the world. In the end, you don’t need anyone but yourself. So, take this time to practice some self-love. You are your own best friend.

So, this isn’t some type of female-empowering pep-talk. It’s just a little harsh reminder that you're not just single on Valentine’s Day, you're single every other day too. So, don’t make Valentine’s Day an excuse to dwell on your lonely misery. These are the best years of your life to be single, so embrace every second of them!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
