5 Reasons Why Trumps Budget Cut On Art Should Be Vetoed

What does an orchestra, a library, a radio, and Bert & Ernie have in common? Can't think of a reasonable answer? Well here it goes, these are all a handful of things that will be at risk of going away due to President Trump's budget cuts. The budget plan, which calls for the elimination of four independent cultural agencies — the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting- will be destroying things that everyone in today's and past generations have used as not only children, but also as adults.

Now some may say, well this does nothing to help tax payers or why should I care? It's not like it affects me. Believe it or not, it actually does. In fact it affects everyone. You may or may not know this, but art is everywhere. It's not just a thing you look at in museums or stuff you read in books, it's absolutely everywhere. Still don the believe this? Well here's a list of thing that you'll loose in this budget cut.

1. No Toys

As young as a few months old, we are introduced to toys. Most of the toys are educational, so you typically learn numbers, colors, letters, and shapes through song and colorful buttons. However since art is pointless and should be cut out, then why have toys? I mean colors are pointless then as well as music, but it won't hurt anyone now will it.

2. Schools Will Be Plain and Boring

Say goodbye to cute kindergarten projects or corny little songs that helps your child remember the solar system. It's not like it does them any good. In fact since we're at this point we might as well stick your child in a colorless room for nine hours a day, and let them learn about the budget cut that took away art. These aren't the only things you're saying goodbye too. Band, Art, and theatre teachers will loose their jobs. Stages will be seen as useless places to store things, bandrooms will be turned to places to keep plain jerseys, and art rooms will just be abandoned until a math teacher claims it. There will also be no homecoming weeks because obviously those aren't to creative.

3. Goodbye Libraries

Goodbye Mark Twain. Goodbye SE Hinton. There's no more parties at Gatsby's, and Romeo would've never met Juliet. Books are one of the earliest forms of art that humans have made. We've heard stories since we were young children about various talking animals that you taught you morals, but you know that's useless too. Oh and for be who are blind? Braille books are gone too because there's no exceptions for anyone. I mean do you have a "pre-existing" condition?

4. Goodbye Radios

Radios were once the number one form of receiving entertainment at home, but after the budget cut they'll be completely useless. In fact car manufacturers will just have to make an empty slot in the car because of how useless car radios are. All music will be gone. Will future generations even know who The Beatles or Elvis Presley was? Probably not. If they did, they'd probably think they were made up individuals from tall tales that there grandparents made up.

5. Goodbye TV and Movies

There will be no more Grey's Anatomy, nor will you ever see The Notebook again. All films and TV shows will be completely gone. Are you a fan of westerns? Well you better study a history book, but just a heads up there will be no pictures or art pieces in it. And for as children's programs go, they're gone too. You're kids will never know Elmo is, nor will they even know what Seasame Street is.

Believe it or not, you will loose more than you think. Not to mention there will be no be no individuality because as clothes go, you better get ready to wear neutral colors because everything else will be gone. You maybe thinking that this is an over exaggeration, but it could be our future unless we act against Trumps budget cuts. So the final question is: are you willing to fight against his choice, or will you live in a world where you will no longer be your own person?

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
