Let’s reminisce on the days before I knew what UF was all about. I recall the tour given during Preview (or orientation, for all the non-gators out there), the week before my classes began. I was terrified. My pre-freshman mind was shook; Why were these staffers so enthusiastic? What’s the big deal with the library debate? Who keeps naming our art after potatoes? It was all one giant blur, but among all the chaos there was one thing I distinctly remember: the vegetarian buffet in front of the library. My Preview Staffer told me about it; he said it was cheap, vegetarian, and unlimited. Of course, I was so interested, but it honestly took me a few months to open up to it. The Krishna lunch buffet can be intimidating, but it’s worth it. Here are 5 reasons why you need to give it a try.

1. Enjoy the Florida Weather

Krishna lunch is served outside between the hours of 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This is a prime time to sit on the grass, sip on some tea, make some friends, and enjoy the sunshine!

2. Bang for Your Buck

Each lunch costs around $5, but they offer discounted rates for the more lunches you buy. The buffet they serve is unlimited—just hop right back in line. Where else are you going to find a delicious $5 buffet? Probably no-where.

3. Vegetarian/Vegan Options

Krishna is all plant-based, and they offer vegan options too! Here’s to saving the planet and the animals while enjoying a delicious meal, consisting of a main entrée, salad, dessert, and tea.

4. Variety & Consistency

It sounds like an oxymoron, but it's true. Krishna’s meals are specific to the day and are the same every week. Every Wednesday is spaghetti, every Monday is lentil soup, and my favorite day—Tuesday—is always eggplant with Kofta balls. Try each day of the week to find your favorite!

5. The Amazing Service

The people serving Krishna lunch are always serene and kind. They seem to enjoy being there, and they are willing to share information about their philosophies. Once I visited and had a two-hour conversation with the man who served my food—he even gave me a book to read! Their energy is unmatched, and they’re arguably friendlier than the Preview staffers that put me onto Krishna lunch.

Honorable mention: Krishna Salad Dressing. That is all.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
