I live where you vacation.

5 Reasons To Love South Florida

Ahh, South Florida. Anyone that has been here can agree there is no other place like it. South Florida is like it's own little world. Most of the time that's a good thing, but for those who go to school here it can be a bit of a problem. (Who can study when it's always beach weather?) Regardless of the temptation, South Florida has so much going for it.

The Weather.

Yes, it's always sunny here. Well, except in the summer when it rains everyday at 2pm. But other than that it's always beautiful outside. Some might think it's too hot, and I agree summer's can be rough sometimes, but that just means you need a dip in the water at our perfect beaches. And don't worry if it's the middle of November, it's beach weather year-round.

Going to the beach in between class.

Students are really the only ones who can relate, but there's plenty of us between the 5 universities in the area. There's nothing that makes you feel like you live in paradise more than showing up to class still in your bathing suit and covered in sand. It's impossible to be stressed during finals week when your studying for your math test while getting a tan. How many other students can say they see the ocean from certain buildings on campus?

Every hour is happy hour.

When you live in paradise, it's hard not to feel like you're on a permanent vacation. Your weekends are spent drinking daiquiri's from Fat Tuesdays at Beach Place in Ft. Lauderdale or bar hopping on South Beach. Your week days are spent between the beach and the local beach bars trying to escape the tourists. The saying "I live where you vacation" is one you know all to well.

The food.

In South Florida there is no shortage of good food. We have everything from the local's favorite hole in the wall spots, to the 5-star restaurants with world renowned chefs. The seafood is fresh and the cuban food is authentic. There's a reason you'll see a gym around every corner.

Motivation to succeed.

Living in South Florida definitely gives you a false sense of reality. Being constantly surrounded by the mansions, designer cars, expensive shops, and just the over all wealthy area, I have to remind myself that I'm still a college student and I can't actually afford those Prada sunglasses. Other than making me feel extremely poor when I get out of my Ford Fusion and see that I'm parked next to a Bentley, South Florida has given me some serious motivation to succeed later on in life. I've been given a little taste of what it's like to have such a privileged lifestyle and live like the rich and famous. And now that I have, I'm determined to work hard to achieve this lifestyle, instead of just pretending when I walk down Worth Ave.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
