Ever since the eruption of newfangled technology in the late 1990's, especially with the consistent evolution of videogames, the first-world youth have largely been deemed lazy, unmotivated, unsociable, and neurotic; however, now with the introduction of a popular new app, Pokémon GO, these same millennials are experiencing an upheaval in the reality they thought was so terribly unfulfilling before. No longer must we hide in the shadows of our bedrooms or play alone at university lunch tables: now there's a new way to play Pokémon, and it's already swept, and changed, basically the entire developed world (pretty much in a day and a night). Here are five reasons why everyone should be playing Pokémon GO.
1. Now you'll have an excuse to go outside and play.
We all know it's an ages-long story: you want to exercise but you don't want to put in the work required to get a smokin' hot beach body. The good news is that Pokémon GO is here to change that. Sort of. Of course there will likely be modifications for the tech savvy that will allow them to hack into their game and GO from their couches (Where is the fun in playing a game designed for physical exploration from the comfort of your couch?), but the honest-to-goodness Pokémon Trainers will have an opportunity to exercise on a daily basis if they stick to the actual game without committing Pokéfraud.
2. You'll discover places you've never seen before.
It's only been a few days since I downloaded Pokémon GO and I've already seen places and come to know objects (at Pokéstops) I've never even noticed. If you're the type of person to enjoy hanging out in the lesser known parts of town, Pokémon GO encourages you to literally go and find them!
3. You'll make a ton of new friends.
Whether you're working together with someone on your team (or on another team, for that matter) to take down a Pokémon Gym, or you're simply lounging at a lure awaiting the next appearance of an adorable Pikachu, it's basically inevitable that you'll wind up making several new friends. It's all in a day's work for a Pokémon Trainer.
4. It brings whole communities together.
I've noticed several people who have some semblance of familiarity with the franchise, but who have never actually played a Pokémon game in their lives, up to the age of about 32, asking me for advice on how to effectively catch the next Hitmonchan. I've also seen players as young as maybe eight years old guiding their parents on a Pokémon mission, and taking them around town. It connects people of all ages, races, genders, nationalities, and religions, and in such a time of strife as we're in now, Pokémon GO might've come just soon enough to save the human race from self-destruction. Save it, Voltorb.
5. It's incredibly fun.
Like anything The Pokémon Company has ever done, it's a fun, creative, and innovative game! The increased level of world interaction contributes enormously to its entertainment value, and I don't think I have personally been this excited about a game since I was around 10-years-old.
Who knows: maybe Pokémon will play a major role in awakening some more love of humanity in all?
