5 Reasons To Join The Honors College At Texas State
Texas State Honors College

When I was applying to colleges, like every other high school senior, I had a lot of options in mind. With Texas State being up in the air at the time as my future home, getting accepted to the Honors College made that decision a whole lot easier. Joining the Honors College at Texas State has easily been the best decision I have made in regards to my education and my future. Here is a list of my top five reasons why you should join the Honors College at Texas State.

1. Early Registration.

Early Registration is easily one of the biggest benefits the Honors College has to offer. I entered the Honors College as a freshman, so starting the second semester, I was getting to register days earlier than pre-established sophomores, juniors and seniors. Imagine your dream class schedule. Well, your dream schedule is a lot closer than you think with the help of the honors college.

2. Coffee Forum.

As a student of the Honors College, you get access to the exclusive Coffee Forum. The Coffee Forum is one of the nicest places on campus to study, always filled with friendly faces and FREE coffee. That's right, free. Need I say more?

3. Captivating Classes.

The classes that you take through the honors college are some of the most intriguing and thought-provoking classes you will ever take. How would you like to get an English credit by analyzing Jay-Z and Kanye West song lyrics? Or what about taking a history class where you learn entirely about the history of American Baseball. Or even a class where you read emotion evoking texts all related to death and surrounding topics such as grief, aging and mourning. Oh also, did I mention, classes are always capped at 20 people?

4. The Incredible Staff and Professors.

I am always spending time in the Honors College. Whether I am in class, studying, or getting free coffee, I am always amazed by how friendly the faculty and staff are. They will go above and beyond to help you out in any way. And as far as the professors who teach within the Honors College, the classes that you sign up for, the professors had the idea to teach, so they are ultimately passionate about what they are teaching. Out of all my professors, the ones I have had through the honors college have been hands down the most insightful, friendly and caring. Sometimes I would go to my professor's office hours just to converse because they actually cared about me, as I also cared about them and wanted to learn about them.

5. Endless Opportunities.

If the Honors College brings you anything worthwhile, it will be the abundant amount of opportunities that it provides you. Asides from the things mentioned above, you also have the ability to graduate in the honors college. In order to do this, you have to write a thesis. This thesis can be written over anything. In fact, it doesn't even have to be an essay. Former honors students have drawn picture books, performed dances, or written movie scripts. This thesis will not only be a great advancement when it comes to applying for graduate school, but you can also present it at research conferences or even get it published in a research journal. Not to mention several scholarships are offered through honors. Of course, like anything, you'll get as much out of the Honors College as you put into it.

If you are thinking about joining, do it! I promise you won't regret it.

Friendship. It's defined as the state of being attached to another person by feelings of affection or personal regard, but what really is friendship? Is it that occasional hallway talk with that one person who always manages to cheer you up? Is it that relationship you have with someone where they can be gone for a long period of time, but when they come back, it's like they never left? Is it spending every waking hour with someone, and knowing every detail about their life? Is it the relationship that's filled with fighting, but filled with even more resolution? I've learned that it's all of these things, and every friendship is different. It's a beautifully dysfunctional mess that should always be cherished and never be taken for granted.
