If you are a typical college student you have been like I was and searched all adoption websites to find that perfect furry companion. You found that perfect furry friend you want to bring to college but now it is time to convince your parents on why it is a great idea to have the little sweet puppy dog. I can give you the 5 best reasons to have a dog in college.

1. Excuse for taking a study break.

Taking study breaks helps students relieve the stress from studying for that hard test. Less stress means better test scores according to many different studies. Dogs give you the best excuse to take that study break by always needing a certain amount of attention. Dogs have to be taken out to go potty which means put down the computer or book for five minutes and walk your dog outside to take care of business.

2. Teaches Responsibility

Dog food, medical appointments, flea medicine, treats, and toys..... dogs cost money which means you have to save up on your money. You don't get to have those random shopping sprees anymore, all extra money goes to your dog just like it will go to your family in the future. A dog is a child and relies on you for support and love.

3. No More Lonely Nights.

No more of those lonely nights in bed now you have the perfect cuddle buddy. A lot of people in their 20s are lonely and go to partying in order to not feel as alone. Now with a dog, you can lay with your dog and those the best puppy nap in the world. Not to mention dogs are better listeners than humans so started telling your dog all your issues in life and he or she will be there for you even give you those loving wet puppy dog kisses.

4. You Will Get Your Daily Exercise Whether You Want it or Not

Whether you want to or not, your dog has to go out and go for walks. Guess what? You are the one who has to take him or her on these daily walks which means put on those running shoes and take a nice stroll on campus or around the neighborhood. No more freshman fifteen for you with all this daily exercise.

5. Perfect Excuse to be Anti-Social

You don't want to go out? Tell your friends your friends you feel your dog is lonely and needs your company. That dog can be the perfect excuse to lay in bed with a glass of wine and binge watch your favorite Netflix show. No more feeling like you have to go out all the time.

I can give you so many more reasons on why to have a dog in college but these five surely get the point across. Ever since I have gotten a dog my first year here at Troy I have been the happiest person in the world and a lot more responsible. My grades have come up and I would rather cuddle in bed with my rotten puppy than go out and party.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
