The leaves are changing, the weather is getting colder, and the holiday season is upon us. With Halloween passing, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Eve are fast approaching. One of the best parts of the holiday season is the special activities and qualities that occur on each holiday. The time of giving thanks, being with family and friends, and celebrating your year while welcoming the new one is soon to be here. These are some of the many reasons to be excited about the upcoming holiday season.

1. Getting together with friends and family.

Coming home for the holidays means reuniting with family you haven't seen in a while. Nothing is better than spending time with the people you love. Gathering together in high spirits, with lots of food and music and decorations, is one of the best parts of the holidays.

2. Decorating.

One way to get excited about the holidays is to start decorating for them. As soon as November 1st hits, Christmas decorations are fair game. Putting up lights in your room and covering everything you own in tinsel is the perfect way to get in the Christmas mood.

3. Christmas music.

Nothing like the sound of Mariah Carey's high notes to put you in the Christmas mood. Break out your Michael Bublé Christmas Album, pop a batch of cookies in the oven and get ready to celebrate.

4. Holiday movies.

The moment ABC Family's 25 Days Of Christmas begins, I drop everything to watch the movies. Between ABC Family, Hallmark, and Netflix, you can never be bored. Cuddle up under a blanket, turn on The Nightmare Before Christmas, and you're all set for the holidays.

5. Holiday Breaks.

Holidays usually mean a break from school, which we all need. From Thanksgiving break to Winter break, we are taking our midterms, and after that, the semester is finally over and we get some well deserved rest.

So as of November 1st, Ill be counting down the days as I listen to Christmas music non-stop. Happy Holidays!

I'll never forget the day that someone told me these words: "Madison, I think you're a good friend to everyone but yourself." I stood there completely in awe of that statement. Before that day, I never really thought about being a friend to myself, and at the time, I didn't really know what it meant. Now, I realize that you can't fully be there for other people unless you're there for yourself, too. You can't show up for others until you're willing to show up for yourself.

Here are five things everyone should learn in order to be a better friend to themselves. These steps are hard, but they're so worth it.
