5 Reasons You Should Start Drinking More Water

In This Article:

With all of the tasty but sugary drink options we have today, sometimes it can be easy to pass on filling your cup with some good ol' H20 instead. Listed below are some good points on why water is so much more beneficial to stick with!

1. Healthy Skin

We love a good skin care tip! Drinking water helps to not only hydrate you throughout your long day but can also have skin benefits too. It can help with clearing up blemishes while giving you that glowing and fresher look. Test it out! Try increasing your daily water intake each day for about a week and see the healthy effects it can have on your skin. If you're not a fan of drinking water, this can definitely be your motivation to start. You won't regret trying it out!

2. Helps with Digestive Health

Our body needs a proper amount of water in order for the digestive system to work right and digest our food properly. It's pretty simple to figure out how much water is a good amount, you can even just type "recommended water intake" in your search engine and it pops up right away with how many cups/liters we should take in a day. Also when drinking more water our body is using it to get out toxins and waste. It's kind of like that weird cleanse you heard about your friend doing, but for what? Our body cleanses naturally and does it without having to drink weird juices and such. Drink your water daily and I promise you don't need to buy whatever "natural" thing they're trying to sell you. What's more natural than letting our bodies function the way they're supposed to?

3. Saves Money

We don't need that 2-4 dollar energy drink almost every morning when water is FREE. We don't always need to order a pop or a sugary lemonade with each meal when ordering water is FREE. Don't get me wrong I love a good coffee when I'm on the run, but if you add up the cost of how much money you just spend on all of the more expensive options it's a good chunk of your change! I'm not saying "Don't ever order your favorite drink again!", I'm just saying to be conscious and it can make a healthy change here and there for your body and your wallet.

4. Energy and Hydration

You'd be surprised how much better you'd feel if you wake up and drink some cold water! A travel mug full of water is something I will not leave my house without when I'm in for a long day at school. When you are dehydrated it's easy to feel tired and really low on energy for the time being. Being dehydrated not only can make us feel tired but can also bring on those unwanted headaches throughout the day. There are plenty of causes of headaches, but commonly it is a sign you aren't drinking enough water.

5. Healthier Option Overall

We all know water is a healthy choice versus the other options in the store for many reasons. It doesn't have all the added sugars, carbs, fats, and weird things we can't pronounce sometimes on the label. It also doesn't have the high calories that other soft drinks contain. If you're looking to lose weight, it could do you a great service to even cut out pop or sugary drinks to get you started somewhere. Water doesn't always have to be boring either. You can infuse it with fruit to give it taste without adding any unnatural ingredients, syrups, or sugars. My favorite thing to add to water is lemon, hands down. You can even add mint leaves to your water if you're looking for an even more refreshing taste. The healthy option isn't always the less tasty or boring option and infused water if proof of that!

8 Things I Realized After My First Semester In College

Actually, Kylie Jenner, 2018 is the year of realizing things.

The first semester of college is famous for being one of the most difficult transitions of one's young adult life. You're thrown into a completely new area where the majority of the people surrounding you are strangers in an academic environment that's much more challenging then what you've grown accustomed to for the past twelve years. On top of that, you probably share a room with another person (or even multiple people) on the lumpiest "mattress" you've ever slept on.

With this change comes a lot of questions: what do I want to major in? What am I passionate about? Is what I'm passionate about something I'm actually good at? Why does the bathroom smell like cranberry juice and vodka? What is that thing at the bottom of the shower drain?

6 Unrealistic Expectations Society Has For Young Adults

Don't let the thesaurus-inspired vocabularies in our résumés fool you. We're actually just big kids.

Well over four feet tall and 100 pounds in weight, many of us "young adults" of the world still consider ourselves children. Big, working, college-attending, beer-drinking children. We may live on our own, know how to cook noodles, and occasionally use a planner, but don't be fooled; the youthful tendencies that reside within us still make their way into our daily lives. From choosing to stay up until 3:00 a.m. playing video games on a school night to going out in 30 degree weather without a coat, we still make decisions that our parents and grandparents would shake their heads at in disappointment. So why are we expected to know exactly how to be a wise, professional, sensible adult? It's not that we're irresponsible (for the most part, anyway). It's that we are young, inexperienced, and still have the sought-after, enthusiastic mentality that we can do and be whatever we want, which has not yet been tarnished by the reality of the world. These are just a few of the unrealistic expectations that society has for young adults.
