5 Reasons to Adopt a Cat
Brandon Meska

As a busy college student, it's difficult to imagine committing to a pet. Just a few months ago, I couldn't imagine bringing a pet home, especially knowing that I wouldn't be able to be there for a good part of the day. Now, two adopted friends later, I can't imagine not having a pet to come home to every day. In addition, I think adoption is great, although I may be biased, since I was adopted when I was a baby. I think every human deserves an opportunity to have the best life possible, and I extend that same sentiment to animals.

1. According to aspca.org, 70 million stray cats live in the United States.

That means there are about 70 million cats that don't have a home. Would you say no to this sweet face?

2. Each year, about 1.4 million cats are euthanized.

There are so many animals and not enough space in shelters to accommodate them all. The sad truth is that many animals are put to sleep. I can't imagine a world without this kitty's precious self.

3. Sadly, more cats are euthanized than adopted.

How heartbreaking is it that all of these wonderful animals are not getting the opportunity to prove their worth as a household pet?

4. They don't need a ton of attention.

It's actually okay to leave cats alone for hours per day. They're pretty self-sufficient. And, like humans, cats value their personal time.

5. They're continuous entertainment and company.

People may believe that dogs are more affectionate, but cats actually make great companions. Plus they are great at entertaining themselves as well as us.

College isn't easy, and I'm afraid I'm not going to make it at the rate my mental health is going.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?
