Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and even though everyone seems to be preparing for Christmas, I’m gearing up for Turkey Day. Ah, yes, the best day of the year. This holiday seems to be one of the most underrated ones, because some people never truly celebrates Thanksgiving. Everybody likes Christmas, Halloween, all those other holidays, but they're all wrong. Here are 5 reasons that it is actually number one.
1 . The endless supply of delicious food.
I don’t know about everyone else, but my family always makes the best food. Turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans – you name it, my mom makes it. Since we always end up making too much because our eyes are bigger than our stomachs, I get to have Thanksgiving dinner for five days instead of one day, which is a W in my book.
2. Spending time with family.
As an out-of-state college student, the holidays are super important to me. It’s the time of the year that I get to go home and see my family for once. We watch football, movies, play board games, and all catch up on the things that we have missed over the previous months. Then there are always family debates about politics, but we love them anyway.
3. Football.
I’m not huge into football, but I love to sit down and watch a good game with my friends and family during the holidays. My family is a house divided, so game days are always tense. But in the end, we all end up sitting around the same TV watching the same team, spewing the smack talk left and right, but we know it’s all in good fun.
4. Black Friday shopping.
Black Friday is simultaneously one of the best and worst parts of the Thanksgiving holidays. You can find all of the great deals and sales on Christmas gifts for your loved ones, but it’s at the expense of losing a limb or being trampled. Honestly though, it’s really worth it for the 75% of Playstation at Best Buy.
5. Even more food.
Honestly, you can never have enough food. What more is there to ask for during the holiday season? I’ll tell you: nothing.
