5 Reasons You Are Already Stressed This Semester
Lifehacker

As I sit down at my computer, all I can think about is how much homework I have to do; how much studying needs to be done before the first tests of the semester next week; how many things need to get done in order for me to enjoy going to the football game tomorrow without being stressed about what is awaiting me when I get home. I personally love school. Call me a nerd, or even lame, but I think going to school is fun. I think learning stuff is fun, especially when it is stuff you actually enjoy. However, it is the fourth week of school and I am sure many of you, just like me, are stressed to the max. Here are some reasons that you might already be stressed this semester.

1. You took the class with the ridiculous professor.

First off, let me apologize in advance. Nothing sucks more than taking a class that is needed for your major and getting stuck with the ridiculous professor. Maybe they are mean. Maybe the professor is scary. MAYBE they are that professor that says 89.9 counts as a B. No matter the situation, sitting in that class alone is enough to give a person anxiety about doing well.

2. Your professor does not speak English (very well).

Bless you. I understand the struggles of trying to understand that professor whose accent is so thick, you might as well just give up. It took me a solid 5 minutes in class on one of the first days to realize that my chemistry teacher was telling us that he cannot explain a concept because he did not know how and that we were just supposed to know it. No, sir. That is not how this works. But okay, it is not like I really understood what you said the first time anyway.

3. You put off work because it was "syllabus week".

Upperclassman, we should really know better by now. But without fail, every semester, people fall into the pattern of just not doing much because of its "syllabus week, so it does not technically count yet!" Oh, how wrong we are. Every time. So wrong.

4. Recruitment.

Recruitment is a wonderful time of the year. Honestly, nothing is better than Bid Day-seeing all the new gals running into their new homes. It is the best feeling ever and we all have the Instagram posts to prove it. However, with Recruitment occurring after school starts, sometimes it becomes difficult to balance it with doing all of the school work that is piled on at the same time. I think teachers put those due dates during recruitment on purpose just to see how we will handle it.

5. You have a terrible sleeping schedule.

When your body just has not quite realized that it can not sleep till noon like it did during the summer, and you cannot stay up until 3:00 A.M. binge watching Netflix. These decisions haunt you as you wake up trying to make it in time for your 8:00 A.M. class.

While I could go on and on about reasons we are already stressed this semester, just writing about these 5 was giving me enough anxiety. Try to get some sleep, eat right, exercise, focus on what you need to do for you, and SLEEP. SLEEP AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE. Naps are always your friend, remember that! Things are only as bad as you make them seem. So even if you are stressed, try to focus on the good and take things one day at a time. You are fabulous and can make it through another semester. Trust me, YOU GOT THIS!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
