Ah, nothing says the start of fall like the return of the acclaimed horror anthology show "American Horror Story."
When many hear this title, many wonder, "Oh, is that the show with all the ghosts?" "Doesn't everyone die in that show?" and the very much talked about phrase, "I heard that show was only good during season one."
While that may be a truth for many, and even in my own heart I feel many similar emotions when it comes to later seasons, I'm here to say the show is still rocking and rolling to its own beat.
The show, while at some times may lag behind, still manages to draw viewers in for its special brand of horror and keep them on their feet at the same time. However, it is far from its golden age, and with being in season six, I have a feeling many will question why they, or even myself, would still watch this terror inducing show.
So without further adieu, here are some reasons why I, and you, should still watch American Horror Story.
1. The Villains
While many plot-lines may be the source of great confusion and ire in the AHS fandom, I'm looking at you season two aliens, one thing that everyone still agrees on is that American Horror Story will never lose its imagination when it comes to its villains. While some may be Rubber Man fans, and spoiler: Tate fans, and others love them some Dandy Motts, I will always and forever be a Twisty girl. Twisty, see above, was a villain with an extremely emotional past making people feel for him and wonder, is he truly bad? This is what makes a true villain and Twisty reminded me, during his season run, exactly why I love and will always watch AHS.
2. The Plot Twists
In season one, we were introduced to a plot twist that everyone in the fandom remembers to this day. I won't spoil anything, but lets say it involved our girl Violet and a lot of tears. From that day on, the show has been trying to top itself, and it rarely disappoints. While some are predictable, many keep you on your toes never willing to believe what the screen is telling you. That's why many are scared to trust the new theme of Season 6, which I must say would be genius if it was a different plot every episode and or everyone is a ghost. This is what keeps AHS so fresh, and reminds me of that line from Forrest Gump. "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get."
3. The Character Development
Never have I seen a show where the writers can successfully make you love a villain. This, my friends, is good character development. While a part of you know they are bad, the fact that the writers can make them seem so real and human at the same time makes you love them all the more. The best example of this is Tate, a true psychopath whom every fan in the world of this show loves. It's because while he is the true monster of the show, he shows us love, loyalty, and most of all earth shattering sadness about his life. We feel for him, because he makes us feel for him, and that is what a true psychopath can do in real life. Due to this phase of writing and planning out, I will always be a faithful viewer to find out what those magnificent writers can do next.
4. The Quotes
One of the the best things about AHS is the writing, and the quotes that come attached to it. These are lines that make you laugh, make you cry, or better yet, make you want to say them every chance you get. While some may be a fan of the famous, "Surprise bitch," I'm very particular to, "Don't make me kill you again" or really any Jessica Lange line. This leads me to my final reason...
5. Jessica Lange.
Yes, I know, I know. She said she was never coming back, she left after Freak Show, and is pursuing other opportunities, but a part of me will always watch to see and hope for her return. When she was on the show, she added a touch of life and magic to a show all about the dead. To me she is the Supreme and I will never lose hope that one day she will come back home to the Murder House she made famous.
