Warning: If you start watching it will be increasingly difficult to stop. The show is extremely addicting, lucky for us it is on all of the time on HLN and is available on Netflix. There are tons of episodes to get through before you are done. This show really articulates how far science has come, and that science is reliable and undeniable. I have over 30 episodes recorded on my DVR that I need to get through and delete.
Here are the reasons to begin watching:
1. It is not long.
As much as I love 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit' it is an hour long. Almost all of 'Forensic Files' are in 30 minute time slots. It is easy to pay attention and you don't have time to be bored because they are resolved in a short amount of time. Trust me, they keep your attention.
2. They are easy to follow.
At the end of each episode with re-enactments they play out for you how the crime happened based on the forensic evidence. You do not have to guess or think back, they recap what happened before each episode ends.
3. You will feel incredibly intelligent.
Each episode you learn something new. Hearing scientists, prosecutors. law enforcement officials, DNA analysts and more speak about their prospective fields and the process of their specific part in the case is nothing short of amazing.
4. You know the perpetrator was caught.
As scary and gruesome as some of the stories are, you can not help but take comfort that the person is now off the street. Justice was indeed served. Trust me, they are scary but they are so good you can not help but watch. I know I'll be afraid to go upstairs at night but I still watch. What does that tell you?
5. The program is special.
You get interviews with victims families and loved ones that make it all the more real and give a perspective that gives you chills. You have prisoners releasing a confession just for the program. You have people admitting that they learned and got ideas from said program to help them solve the case.
In short, the show is nothing sort of amazing. Seriously, you will not believe how they catch some of these perpetrators. You need to see to believe. Go watch!
