To get my mind off of the depressing condition of being black in America, I decided to rewatch my new baby television show, Twin Peaks. For starters, Twin Peaks has nothing at all to do with that breastaurant that the bros dig. I don't even know why they share the same name to be honest with you. ANYWAYS, Twin Peaks is rather the name of a fictional logging town in Washington State, and the backdrop for one of the best television shows ever created by big boy David Lynch, America's king of surreal film and television.
Twin Peaks revolves around the murder of Laura Palmer, the town's Homecoming Queen and young celebrity of sorts. Main character Special Agent Dale Cooper is sent on a mission to solve the case, and discovers that there's more to the town than meets the eye. The show ran for 2 seasons about 25 years ago, and ended on a cliff-hanger that is to be resolved in the upcoming season arriving in 2017.
Now let's get to why you gotta watch this show.
1. It's From David Lynch
David Lynch is a surrealist mastermind in the art world, and an alum of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts; a stone's throw from the Emmanuel campus. Born in Missoula, Montana, Lynch has created films of an acquired taste such as Eraserhead and Blue Velvet, all staring characters he's repurposed over the years. Lynch's different approach to story-telling has given him cult fame status, and reached its mainstream peak following Twin Peaks.
2. The Cast
The fictional town of Twin Peaks has some of the most odd yet believable characters in television. Being a show focused on the theme of duality, no one (not even the owls) are what they seem. And besides, the show has a lady who carries around a log everywhere she goes. I mean, I would too, but I only have so many hands you know? This is one of my favorite photos of some of the cast members by the way. Just look at that swagger. Inhale it. Now exhale.
3. The Drama
Yo, there's lots of drama and I'm not even going to discuss it in this article. Just trust me when I say that the drama in the show keeps you hooked in throughout, kinda like a soap opera, but not a soap opera, ya know?
4. Special Agent Dale Cooper
All I gotta tell you about Dale is that you're going to love him. I don't even have to sell that to you. Being the main character of the show, he breaks most of the tropes you would expect out of a male lead. This man has layers, like the suit he's wearing???
5. The Soundtrack
The music, composed by Andre Badalamenti, perfectly goes with the show in ways you wouldn't expect. The music is awesome, the show is awesome, if you're not staying for the show, at least stay for the music.
Twin Peaks is totally one of my favorite shows of all time and I can't wait for the upcoming season in 2017. Y'all gotta get on it. Twin Peaks is totally worth the watch, and will keep you on your toes, clamoring for more.
