1. The freedom to do what you want, when you want
Traveling with friends or family is incredible bonding time and a fun way to share moments and build relationships. But often when traveling with a set group your itinerary is restricted to the limitations and desires of the group; places that may have been top of your list reside at the bottom of your friends' and soon you're missing some of the greatest attractions you aimed to visit. Further, you can decide to move at whatever pace best suits you.
2. Opportunity to make new friends
As a solo traveler I don't mean you're by yourself at all times. Rather, you have the flexibility to move about as you please and make new friends along the way. Hostels are the perfect vehicle for meeting new people and even finding new travel mates.
3. You grow
Traveling alone can be extremely difficult at times, as you're there's no buffer to dilute your insecurities and flaws. You're suddenly aware of yourself at all times, maybe even meeting your true self for the first time. But only in such a vulnerable place can you grow and embrace their faults, allowing you to strengthen your weaknesses and mature at an increased rate.
4. It's cheaper
Finding accommodation and food for large parties can be pricy on top of difficult. Looking as a single occupant however, lightens the load and opens up more opportunities on websites such as Couch Surfing and Airbnb.
5. Expand your comfort zone
But why, it's comfortable? The greatest progress an individual can make is through challenges, whether that be those imposed upon them or ones they undertake for themselves. Expanding your comfort zone can lead to new relationships, increased appreciation for people and culture and places, as well as a more-rounded and educated character.
Try traveling solo, just once. It might be hard but it will undoubtedly be worth it in the end.
