So you’re thinking about dating a musician, huh? Well, let me tell you a thing or two… Musicians are their own breed of human. Their minds don’t quite work the same way as everyone else. They’re logical and artistic, their ear for error is almost always on point, they listen to music in a completely different way, and they’re very very specific and critical of themselves… and others. If you’re finding yourself falling for one of these artists, you better prepare yourself for what you’re getting into.
1. You will have songs written about you, good and bad.
And you’re just going to have to deal with that. That’s how they express themselves. They don’t journal, they don’t call up their friends and complain about you, they write a song and sing it until it loses its meaning. It’s therapy. On the plus side, if you do something nice for them, you’ll get a couple corny love songs coming your way. But warning—don’t break their hearts because their bark can be worse than their bite.
2. They’re very emotional.
They may not show it, but in order to be able to spill your guts out on paper to make music, you have to have an emotional side. They laugh a little too much, cry a little too much and love a little too much. And it’s a beautiful thing if you let it be.
3. You will be their personal audience, any time, any place.
They just wrote a new song? You’re going to be the first one to hear it. New chord progression? You have to tell them what you think. They just learned a new cover? You have to listen…and then record it for their Youtube page.
4. You’ll be attending all of their shows and open mics.
If you’re not already their biggest fan, you should probably start. They need all the support they can get and seeing you in the audience while they perform is not only comforting but also the most rewarding feeling in the world. It doesn’t take much to please them, all you have to do is support them.
5. They will love you more than you could have ever imagined.
We established that musicians can be emotional, but it runs so much deeper than that. Their hearts are huge, and that’s why they need such a powerful outlet. Those corny love songs aren’t just corny love songs to them. They embody all of the things they love about you in their favorite medium ever. That’s powerful, and they want to share that with you. You lucky SOB.
If you’re not dating a musician, make a huge effort to get in touch with whatever it is that you're so passionate about. A person’s passion says so much about them. If you are dating a musician, remember that you’re their muse, their biggest fan, and they will be everything you could ever want in return. They’ll give you their all while supplying you with some quality entertainment here and there. If you’ve got one, don’t let them go.
