5 Reasons You Should Take A Road Trip
Austin Gunter

The open road presents an infinity of opportunity. Travelling, whether aimlessly or with a destination, allows for an incomparable experience for any individual. With that, I present to you five reasons there is nothing like the open road.

1. You can stop to see any sight you like.

Even within the U.S., there are countless unique off road stops to captivate a travelling audience. There are historical towns, theme parks, landmarks and even weirder attractions like The Thing (pictured), which allow for discoveries and experiences unparalleled to those of your average town.

2. You experience the natural country in a completely different way.

Sure, flying to a destination is great, but driving lets you experience the true essence of the natural world. You can feel every mountain and valley and observe countless rivers, lakes and coastlines, leading to ample opportunity to admire the natural wonders of the world.

3. You can witness the incredible feats of the builders of the U.S.

Driving through the country, you can experience the feats of design conquered by hardworking individuals that allow you to travel as you do. Mountains have tunnels, large rivers have bridges and gorges somehow can be driven through only dirt to the remarkable man-made feats. Many individuals lost their lives building these roads, and you can experience the vastness of their sacrifice by travelling upon their work.

4. You can experience the differences between state.

In every state, there are differences in weather, in speed and in style. By travelling in different places, you can observe the quirks of each location. The signs change, the food differs and the people transform, or so it seems. There are different accents, styles and preferences, creating for a unique experience everywhere you go.

5. You can go ANYWHERE.

On the open road, there are no limits. You can travel across states, across countries, or even across continents! You can go anywhere. If you drive far enough, everywhere you go will be vastly different. There are countless unique experiences to.be found, and they cannot compare to the same old habits of home life.

With that, I encourage you to get out and go! There's nothing like a good road trip to sooth the soul and create a lifetime of memories. Grab some friends, some snacks and a solid playlist and take off into the sun and toward the horizon.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
