If you're anything like me, you started your quarantine about three weeks ago by re-binge-watching some of the classics, like "The Office" and "Friends," before bingeing "Tiger King" in like two days. But as the days began turning into weeks, and the number of weeks this quarantine is supposed to last seem to keep multiplying, I really needed to watch something new. Something fresh. Something that really engaged me, helped get my mind off the craziness of the world around me.
That's when I found my new favorite, and absolutely bingeable show, "Prodigal Son" on Hulu. It's a show that is currently airing on Fox, so there are still a few episodes left in the season. Which means, after you're done binge-watching, you have more to look forward to!
Now, if I'm being honest, I haven't watched a show in a long, long time that I could not binge, like, five seasons in one week. And it's not even because of that - most new shows on television just don't grab my interest.
But "Prodigal Son"? Yeah, it is my BIG exception. It truly is one of the best shows I've seen in awhile, and you can practically stream the entire season right now on Hulu.
In case you need any more convincing, though, here are five reasons to make "Prodigal Son" your new favorite binge-watch during quarantine:
1. Malcom Bright
GiphyIf looks were everything, I wouldn't need to write anything else, because heart eyes times ten, am I right?? But since I'm here to convince you on how the complex emotions and intriguing characters on this show are why you should watch it, I figured I'd start with the main character: Malcolm Bright - also known as Malcom Whitly. He is a deeply emotional and broken character that you just can't help but fall in love with. He has his flaws, but they are played so impeccably well by Tom Payne that you find yourself wanting to help Bright instead of being mad at him. Which brings me to my next point...
2. The acting is next-level amazing.
GiphyTom Payne as the broken, yet strong, son of a convicted serial killer is the best acting I've seen in a really long time on television. But Bellamy Young, who plays Jessica Whitly - his mother, valso steals the show. And, of course, we can't forget Michael Sheen - his performance as Martin Whitly, Malcolm's serial killer father, is out-of-this-world creepy. As it should be. Seriously, the complexities of these characters will hook you in from episode one because of the incredible performances of ALL the actors and actresses on this show.
3. The storyline is one of the best I've ever watched.
GiphyIf the characters, and the flawless performances of the actors who play them, isn't enough to draw you in, then the storyline 100% will. I won't reveal too much, because this is one of those shows you just need to watch play out to truly understand, but for a quick summary: Malcolm Bright, a.k.a. Malcolm Whitly, is the son of a convicted serial killer. He helps the NYPD catch, well, other killers, and he's incredibly intelligent and good at his job. However, his father will always seem to burden his soul and mind, and his father's sins continue to haunt him.
4. Each episode brings a new, exciting case.
GiphyAt the core of the show, it is still considered a "crime drama." And while it does especially well with the emotional turmoil of it's central story, it does an equally amazing job creating new cases in each episode. Unlike some other crime dramas I've watched, the cases are always so different and so intriguing. They usually consist of some action, some mystery (and "I totally didn't see THAT coming!" surprise twists), and a tad bit of dark humor.
5. And, last but not least, you can't help but click "Play Next Episode" every. single. time.
GiphySo, what makes this action-packed crime drama, with a touch of horror and deep emotions, so bingeable? After every episode, you can't help but click "Play Next Episode." The underlying story is filled with so many twists and turns that you are left on the edge of your seat wondering what happens next, even at 3 A.M. Honestly, it's the perfect binge-watch for quarantine - you won't ever be bored, that's a guarantee.
