1. Exploration
In college there are classes on subjects you never even touched upon in high school such as philosophy, race politics, and neuroscience. You can't expect to know what you don't like if you haven't even sampled half the menu!
2. Interdisciplinary
If you're a multifaceted individual like me *wink wink* you have a lot of interests you can't live without. When I was in high school I put off taking economics, a requirement, until my senior year, because I couldn't live without a performing arts class in my schedule every year. For some of us however, we had to drop the things we love such as world language or art to fulfill requirements. At a liberal arts college, your schedule is built to be flexible for your interests so you can take ballroom dancing every semester if that's your thing without slowing you down on your major track! You can have classes from so many different disciplines in one semester!
3. Grad School Preparation
Though Bernie Sanders may say the bachelor's degree is the new high school diploma, South Asian parents will tell you "No beta, Masters and PhD." In all seriousness, postgraduate education is sometimes shown to be correlated to higher incomes and better marketability in the workforce and most graduate schools appreciate the well-rounded approach to education provided by a liberal arts college.
4. Learning Environment
Most LACs are small which allow great student-professor relationships which set the foundation for great letters of recommendation for internships and employment as well as better chances for conducting research under a professor that knows your name and work ethic. Though some may not like being a big fish in a small pond, it is undoubtable that this kind of environment can help create a closeness in classmates hard to find at major universities and an approachability in learning style that could help struggling students.
5. The Student Body
One of the biggest challenges facing students as they leave home, other than student debt, is homesickness. With the warm, close-knit student body found at most liberal arts colleges, a young freshman is much more likely to adjust better. When you graduate from a liberal arts college, you are leaving yet another loving home that's impact will be felt for years in its strong alumni network. The experience of a liberal arts college is one that teaches many lessons and stays with you forever.
