Advocacy for the arts and all of the reasons they are beneficial will always be heard from those involved in the arts. While all artists could ramble on for hours with lists longer than sonnets, they shouldn't be the only ones who have reasons to be thankful for the arts. Art, in all forms, benefits the entire the world. Whether people acknowledge it or not, art places a very heavy emphasis on day to day life. Just because one is not an artist does not mean they don't owe some gratitude to all that art and artists provide society. Here are 5 reasons everyone should be thankful for the arts and their creators.

1. Art makes things aesthetically appealing.

Art adds beauty to the world. Without murals, photographs, designs and sculptures things would be dull and drab. Besides the nature, the things that fill our eyes with wonder and cause our mouths to drop in awe would be lost. The more modern marvels of our world come from artists.

2. Art is one of the greatest sources of entertainment.

A large portion of the entertainment industry would be entirely missing. This would strip one of the every day person's regular source of entertainment. The love of music, movies, written word and magazines that society feeds off of would be gone.

3. Artists are the creative people in society.

In all of your group projects, work meetings and social settings, these are the people that supply the out of the box thinking that pushes the group to higher standards and inventive solutions. You need creativity to go hand in hand with intelligence.

4. Art is the outlet that puts the most passion back into the world.

Powerful voices, opinions, and view points are all motivated by passion. This powerful emotion is engrained into artists. The power of creation in itself is a voice. Art, whether it is seen or heard, is the outlet so many people rely on and relate to.

5. Art fosters the future in our youth.

It has been proven that involvement in the arts keeps children out of trouble, helps their academics, their mental health and their social skills. Art fosters the minds and hearts of children. These children are the future. Art will make it brighter for them and the lives they touch.

You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
