Over the past few months, I realized that many of my friends were reluctant to share what I write on social media. "Are you embarrassed by my flawlessness, shameless writing?" I asked. Their replies were shocking. Here are the 5 most frequent reasons people refused to share an Odyssey article on social media.
1. "I have family on Facebook"
Okay, so maybe your aunt Joan doesn't want to read my article about how more teenage girls today are using sugar daddies to pay for college, but that doesn't mean it's not an interesting read.
2. "The Odyssey isn't a reliable source"
Yes, I can write about whatever I'd like to, but that doesn't mean I don't put in the research necessary to educate myself on a topic. Flashback to number 1, I actually did use a reliable source for my sugar daddy article! Consider me an expert.
3. "No one uses Facebook"
This is a blatant lie. First of all, I just saw you close out of FB on your phone. Second of all, Betty, then how do I know that you are interest in attending the dog beach day on July 8th, 2072? Third of all, then use twitter you selfish bitch.
4. "You don't get anything out of it anyway"
This is false. Contrary to popular belief, there is $$$ involved. A popular article= new shoes for me. How dare you restrict me from that luxury.
5. "I don't agree with your opinion"
But that's the point. College-aged students are meant to educate each other by immersing themselves in other opinions, seeing both sides of things, doing research, and then forming their own opinion. Share the article and say "Hey, I never thought about this in this way before. I still don't agree but what an interesting read!"
I just gave you 5 bullshit reasons you can't use anymore as to why you won't share Odyssey articles online. You're welcome.
This article idea was created by Abbey Blum, a level-headed roommate that explained why some people aren't sharing Odyssey articles.
