5 Reasons To Appreciate Oprah Winfrey

In honor of Oprah Winfrey's 62nd birthday this past Friday, I thought it would be appropriate to list the a few of the many reasons why she is one of my favorite people and why she should be more appreciated my the world. So continue reading with an open mind, and if you don't love Oprah by the end of this post then—well that's your loss.

1. Her Instagram

If you aren't following Oprah on Instagram, you're living your life incorrectly? She consistently gives her fans an inside look into her everyday life, including pictures of her amazing produce grown in her own macro-garden. Look at how happy she looks! What more does one need?! Please do yourself a favor and follow hernow. You're welcome.

2. Oprah's Favorite things

If there is one episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show everyone wanted to attend, this is the one. Once a year Oprah would give her audience members some of her favorite things (aka the best gifts ever), and their reactions were everything! Everything from books and kitchenware to electronics and cars, Oprah had no limits on what she would give her fans. Even though she doesn't have her show any longer *wipes tear off cheek*, she still posts her favorite things on her Amazon account so that no one has to struggle with knowing what the cool gifts of the year are. Other billionaires should take notes as to how to be as generous as Oprah. The world would be a better place.

3. Squad goals

Can we just talk about Oprah's friend group. You know you've got the squad that trumps everyone else's when your friends consist of Gayle, Stedman, Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz and Tyler Perry. They're so iconic there isn't even a picture of them all together because I don't think any of us are ready for it yet. Maybe one day.

4. Her interviews

Being the queen of interviews, anyone worthy of being asked a question has been interviewed by Oprah. In fact, if you haven't been interviewed by Oprah then your career hasn't reached its peak yet. Leave it to Oprah to make even the most hostile person seem relatable but yet still ask the questions everyone else is afraid to ask. If Oprah asks you something, you answer with the truth and nothing but.

5. She brings people together

I think we can all agree that "The Sound of Music" reunion on Oprah's show was one of the best moments of television history. This is just one example of the many shows she has reunited including "Friends," "The Cosby Show," "Seinfeld," etc. Aside from TV shows, Oprah has brought many families together, for example, she reunited the family of a girl named Clemantine after they were separated by genocide in Rwanda and had not seen each other for 12 years. Even if you hate Oprah, for whatever crazy reason, you have to admit that that was awesome!

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
