I recently read an article about why women should stop wearing Birkenstocks. The writer deemed them unfit for grown-up society, and a step backwards in trying to become a successful woman. Although now I take great offense from articles like this, I’ll admit, I used to be one of those Birkenstock haters who thought nothing could be uglier or less stylish. I used to tweet about how hideous the shoes were, retweeting comedy accounts asking why girls would pay $100 to look like they attended the last supper. Yes, the Jesus sandals were not on my wish list, until I broke down and bought a pair. Then, I realized that Birkenstocks may have actually been crafted by Jesus himself. So, here are 5 reasons why Birkenstocks are actually amazing, and why you shouldn’t knock ‘em till you try ‘em.

1. They are COMFY as hell.

If you’re currently searching for a shoe that’s breathable, has an amazing amount of support, only gets more comfortable with age, never gives you blisters, etc., look no further. Birkenstocks are by far the most comfortable shoes to exist. I have so many problems with shoes and it’s really difficult for me to find any that don’t rub me the wrong way or have enough support for my heels. However, I can wear Birks for hours on end and my feet never start to ache. 10/10 would recommend.

2. They can literally take you anywhere.

No shoe is more versatile than Birkenstocks. Going for a walk? Birks. Going on a date? Birks. Going to the pool? Birks. It’s cold af outside and you have to walk all the way across campus? Birks with socks. Going on a bike-ride? Birks? I’ve even worn my Birks hiking! I’ve worn them walking across Pittsburgh, Florida, Hershey Park, D.C., and everywhere in between. Don’t even get me started about how awesome Birks are for road trips.

3. There's a different style for almost every occasion.

Birkenstocks come in a variety of colors and styles, so if you’re willing to spend some cash to build your collection, there’s literally a Birk for every occasion. Many people think the classic double-strap “Arizona” style is the only kind that exists, but Birkenstocks come in sooo many other cute forms. They even make “fancy” Birks which resemble a regular sandal with an ankle-strap for more upscale occasions, but providing you with the same awesome comfort. I will say, however, Birks may not be acceptable for a job interview or formal occasion. But I am 100% not opposed to buying a pair of white Birks for my wedding day.

4. ANYONE can wear them.

I introduced my mom and sister to Birkenstocks and they’ve been wearing them ever since! My boyfriend’s little sister has joined to Birk-train, as well. I’ve seen men wearing them, older women, young people, and they even have special collections for kids. Birkenstocks know no boundaries when it comes to who wears them. Personally, I think everyone should own a pair.

5. They're good for every season.

You can wear Birkenstocks all summer, fall, winter, and spring. They’re good for year-round use if you know how to style them right! Birks with socks is a popular trend for winter, but Birkenstock actually makes a fuzzy style, too, to help keep your feet warm in chilly weather. So, if you buy a pair, don’t retire them just because summer’s over. You can keep these babies out all year long.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
