5 Reasons New Jersey Is An Awesome State

I lived in New Jersey for the first 18 years of my life, before I went off to college in the South. I still spend a lot of time here when I am not going to school, so I've learned to appreciate what this state has to offer. After living in Louisiana for the past year, I've learned that there are some positive things that you can't deny about New Jersey. Here are five reasons that New Jersey actually is an awesome state.

1. There is something to do in nearly every direction you drive.

Whether you want to drive or take a train to Philadelphia or New York City, hike in the mountains, or go to a mall, there is always an attraction waiting for you around in the corner. In most cities and towns, there are tons of restaurants, stores, and attractions to keep you busy for hours.

2. You can enjoy the nice weather.

Although it does get very cold during the winter in New Jersey, the springs and summers here are very nice and usually are not too hot. It also doesn't rain that much and the weather is fairly predictable--it doesn't change at a moment's notice.

3. You can find almost any cuisine here.

There is a generous offering of restaurants to choose from in this state. From ethnic cuisines to amazing vegan restaurants, there is something for everyone. And the best part is that if you don't like one type of cuisine, there is always another restaurant offering a completely different kind of cuisine around the corner.

4. There are dozens of beaches you can go to.

There are literally dozens of beaches to choose from in New Jersey. Some of the best are Ocean Grove, Belmar, Brigantine, Cape May, and Wildwood. These beaches are, for the most part, very clean and safe to go on. There are also countless beaches within driving distance in New York and Maryland.

5. You have access to wonderful Farmer's Markets.

There are many Farmer's Markets in New Jersey where you can get fresh produce for much cheaper than you would at a conventional grocery store. Much of this produce is local, which supports local farmers, has a smaller environmental impact, and tastes much better since it hasn't traveled thousands of miles from farm to table.

Well, there you have it--five reasons why New Jersey truly is an awesome state. Although New Jersey may sometimes get on my nerves, I have to cut it some slack and show off my roots from time to time.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
