Before beginning my reasoning behind the statement in the title of this article, I will start with a quick history of LUSH Cosmetics and how it came to be.
Liz Weir and Mark Constantine both worked in a hair and beauty salon located in the UK in 1977. Mark was a trichologist, which is “someone who studies the science of healthy hair and scalp” and Liz was a beauty therapist. The two left the beauty salon they were working at and started their own business, “Herbal Hair and Beauty Clinic.” Their products were so innovative that their commercial value was not great at that time.
Liz and Mark established a business relationship with Anita Roddick in the early 80s. Anita had just started her own business called, “The Body Shop” and was offered products by Liz and Mark. She agreed to buy them and Liz and Mark became “The Body Shop’s” biggest suppliers for many years. They designed “hugely successful products [such as], Peppermint foot lotion, honey beeswax cleaners (ultra-bland), herbal hair colors (henna) and body butters.”
As their business grew, so did their staff. They hired five more employees and bought an herb farm in Cambridge, but eventually got bought out by “The Body Shop” because it became “uncomfortable with the formulation of many of its products being owned by another company.” Liz and Mark were also thought to be too influential within their business.
In 1987, Liz and Mark decided to begin a Cosmetics-to-Go mail order business. It proved to be successful, as well as complicated for them. Due to the huge, unexpected success the telephone and computer systems crashed. After many other struggles, job offers and buyouts, Liz, Mark, as well as some others decided that they were good at making cosmetics, therefore they began to look around to see what they could find in order to do so.
Finally, in 1995 they began their own business in Poole, UK, with the name “Cosmetic House.” However, they were not satisfied with the name and launched a competition to name the company, and LUSH Fresh Handmade Cosmetics was founded.
LUSH still continues to be “dynamic, innovative, original and progressive” even today.

1. The staff.
I went to the LUSH in Cleveland, Ohio. The customer service was great and the staff was incredibly helpful and accommodating. If you are a new customer to LUSH, they walk with you, ask questions and recommend products that would work best for your skin and hair and with what you are personally looking for.
2. They are against animal testing.
This reason speaks for itself. On each product, as well as the website, there is a label that states that they do not use animal testing.
3. The products.
There is a huge multitude of innovative and wonderful products for women and men. From bath bombs to shower jellies, body butters to lotions, and shampoo bars to conditioners, as well as face masks and so much more, there is some new, organic, and interesting product that can be utilized, tried and loved. The products at LUSH are not the standard products that can be found at your pharmacy down the street, which makes them so appealing and fun.
Also, on the LUSH pots that some of their products, like the shower jellies and face masks, come in, there is a date of when the product was made, when it expires and who made the product, which is definitely convenient information.
4. They’re charitable.
5. Free stuff.
If you collect five LUSH pots and return them with the LUSH logo, you get a free fresh face mask. And who doesn’t love free stuff?
My experience, as well as many others, with LUSH has been nothing but wonderful. I definitely recommend trying their products if you have not already. They’re one of a kind, smell fantastic and work great!
