5 Reasons Why I Love SJU

The Campus

SJU is easily one of the prettiest campuses I have ever seen all while being in the perfect location. Half urban, half suburban, it’s the best of both worlds knowing that Center City is a 10-minute train ride away. The campus itself is also beautiful including good ol’ Barb, making it hard not to post a basic Insta of her.

The People

There must be something in the water here because I don’t think I have ever been around such a great atmosphere as the one created by the people here at Saint Joe’s. Whether its students or staff the essence of school pride fills the air. The campus is always filled with friendly faces that are more than willing to give you directions or hold a door open for you.

Campion

I know we all won’t agree on this one, but I think Campion is one of the most convenient things on campus. Don’t know how to cook? Campion! Don’t have enough money for grocery shopping? Campion! I think we can all also agree that Campion cookies are the best cookies hands down .Along with that, I can always go for a Campion grilled cheese as well.

The Basketball Games

Ahhhh… my favorite season. Seeing that we don’t have a football team, you can only imagine how insane the basketball games are. I personally love looking around the student section and seeing how packed it is. The chants, the school spirit, and the friendly competition all remind me how great it is to be a Hawk.

The Opportunities

The opportunities here at SJU are endless. Whether its being able to go an immersion program over the winter in Ecuador or going to the Appalachians during spring break, we’ve got it. SJU also presents amazing oppportuniteis from hearing an awesome guest speaker to seeing the Pope! SJU also has almost every club imaginable, making it easy to find your niche and even easier meeting the amazing people here.

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
