5 Reasons I Love Sigma Alpha Sorority

In 1978, a group of women from The Ohio State University decided they wanted more than the Greek system offered. Thus, Sigma Alpha sorority was born. Sigma Alpha is a professional and social sorority helping its members to grow in their love for agriculture. Though most of the sorority are apart of the College of Agriculture, anyone of any major can join the sisterhood.

When I was a freshman at LSU, I was interested in Greek life. However, I didn't know anything about it so I didn't rush the fall semester. Before I recently switched majors, I was an Animal Science major. I learned about Sigma Alpha sorority in one of my animal science classes and was immediately drawn to this organization. I rushed the spring semester of my freshman year. It was the best decision I have ever made. I grew close to the girls in my rush class as well as some of the active members. Here are a few reasons I love my sorority:

1. The Sisterhood.

Sigma Alpha is a smaller sorority which makes the girls in it more like a close family. I feel like I can go to any of my sisters for anything. I know they have my back and I have theirs. I felt apart of the family since the first day I rushed.

2. Agriculture.

Agriculture plays a very important part of our everyday lives. Agriculture is the food we eat and the clothes we wear. I've learned so much about agriculture through this sorority and have gained more appreciation for it. One of the events we hold each semester is called "Ag in the Classroom." We visit different schools in our area and teach them things about agriculture.

3. Friendships.

Through Sigma Alpha, I have made friendships that will last a lifetime. Everyone in the sorority are sisters and friends. We have fun and love each other as sisters and friends. I wouldn't have some of the best friends I have today if it weren't for Sigma Alpha and I wouldn't trade them for the world.

4. My Big.

My big is one of my best friends. She helps me to be the best woman that I can be. I know that I can go to her for anything and everything and I don't know what I would do without her. After our big/little reveal, we connected instantly and I'm so grateful for that. I have the best big ever.

5. Our Crazy Love For Animals.

One of my favorite things about Sigma Alpha is how crazy everyone is about animals. I'm a cat lady and most, if not all, of my sisters are cat ladies as well which I absolutely love. We tend to bond over cute dogs and cats. Even our philanthropy has to do with animals. We volunteer a lot with Companion Animal Alliance. It's so much fun hanging out with the cats and dogs there.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.

April Ludgate from Parks and Recreation is notorious for her "I don't care" attitude. She speaks her mind without caring what anyone thinks of her. Fans love her because she isn't afraid to be herself. April can seem cold and negative, but she's really just fearless and strong-minded. And despite her sometimes harsh words, April truly cares about the people she's closest to. These are all reasons she is the epitome of a college student. April complains whenever she has to do any kind of work, but ends up doing the work anyway. April Ludgate is the ultimate college student spirit animal.

11 Ways To Live The Best Life You Can

Life is full of twists and turns, but you have to keep going.

Life is all about twist and turns, sideways and which ways. Nothing is permanent, so we should take risks, and chase our dreams. We are taught at a young age many lessons that will follow us into adulthood. What we aren't taught is how to feel, and how we handle those emotions. We just have to figure them out ourselves, and that's not fun. In my 21 years of living, I have come to know that way too many people can't handle emotions, or the fact that not everyone is dead inside like them. When you're like me, and you have zero control over your emotions, it's hard to feel comfortable around people who aren't so in touch with themselves. As much as I would like to feel nothing at times, I've accepted who I am and the fact that I can cry over practically nothing. So, there are some things in life that you just have to do.
