I have lived in Maryville, TN my entire life, but I had always just assumed that I would go to the University of Tennessee for college. When I started applying for colleges my senior year of high school, Maryville College offered me an academic scholarship I would have been stupid to decline and the experience I received while taking a tour was like any other. After being a student at MC for the past two years now, I have fallen completly head over heels in love with the school and couldn't imagine myself anywhere else. Although there are over millions of reasons why I love Maryville College. I have narrowed it down to just my top five.
1. The Professors
At Maryville, class sizes are extremely small, especially in your major classes. That being said, the professors are capable of really getting to know each and every student. In result, they are always there to help and office hours are always open and available for a quick hello or an hour worth of questions.
2. We Are Family
Everyone knows everyone on this campus, and unlike high school, knowing everyone is to your advantage. Everyone is family, and this has really been shown when something good happens, when something bad happens, and even if you just need a few words of encouragement before a test, everyone on this campus knows you and cares.
3. No Judgement
Maryville is a private liberal arts college, which means their is a very diverse student body. Since we are such a diverse community, everyone here does not judge. We all support each other and think our differences make us even better.
4. The Campus is Beautiful
Located right outside of the Smoky Mountains, the campus is filled with beautiful architecture and landscaping. On top of that, there are so many outdoor ammenties that it makes for a beautiful place to study outside on any of the picnic tables, benches, or even in an Eno.
5. Classes are Hard
This one probably makes me sound insane, but I greatly appreciate how MC classes are harder than classes I have taken at community colleges and what my friends at UT are taking. Even though it means far more work and stress for me now, I know that it means I am actually learning something and being challenged. In addition, most employers around here recognize that MC is a harder school and therefore take a MC graduate more seriously than an UT graduate.
