Here are five reasons why all students (including commuters) should experience living on campus before the end of their college years.
1. Freedom
Do you ever feel the urge to move out of your parents' house or get sick following their rules? Try living on campus! Not only will you have all the freedom you want, you won't have to worry about anybody hounding you or waking you up at 7 a.m. on the weekends to wash dishes and take out the trash. The lack of supervision in college can be a benefit or a downfall, but the effects will depend on the student. If you rely on your parents nagging you to wake you up or motivate you to get things done, then this may not be the best arrangement for you. But, if you are responsible enough to set your own rules and use your freedom wisely, I can guarantee that you will love living on campus.
2. Luxurious Living
On campus, the living arrangements can be endless. You can choose to live in a single room, a double, a triple. You can also choose to live in suite style, quad style, apartment style, or traditional. Imagine living in an apartment styled dorm room with a fully furnished living room, a kitchen, and bathroom. All of this without a monthly rental fee. How could you turn that down? Colleges also give residential students many benefits such as gym memberships, dining experiences, and many other opportunities. Talk about the perks of living on campus.
3. Friendships
In college, you are bound to build many great relationships. Although bonding with your professors is essential, it's also important to have a social life. Therefore, having a roommate can be a start to a great, long-lasting friendship. From personal experiences, I found my roommate to be someone who I was able to talk to whenever I had a problem, someone to go eat in the dining hall with, and someone to spend my weekends with.
4. Stay Connected
Staying on campus gives you an advantage to experience all the great events offered on campus. It will also save you the hassle of traveling back and forth to get to club meetings or sports practice. Statistics show that students who live on campus are more likely to stay involved with campus activities and organizations. The easy access to friends, clubs, and campus reduced the likelihood of the student being disconnected from the campus.
5. Once in a Lifetime Experience
College years are limited. Knowing that you can't be a college student forever, and that you can't rewind time, it is important to take advantage while you can. The opportunity to get the full college experience will not remain forever, so if you are willing to step out of your shell, I encourage you to try something different. You still have the chance take advantage, explore, and experience campus life head on.
