Students have much to look forward to as they return to campus after their adventurous and relaxing summer vacations. Excitement fills the air as best friends reunite, interesting classes begin, and weekend festivities start again. Amidst all the anticipation, there is one thing people aren't thrilled about... moving back into tiny, cramped dorms and showering with shower shoes. However, Lakeview, one of the newer dormitories completed in December 2007, makes living in dorms seem more luxurious. Here are five reasons Lakeview is the best dorm at the University of Richmond!

1. Front row view of the beautiful campus lake

It is undeniable that the campus lake is one of the University of Richmond's most beautiful features. Lakeview Hall is built right next to this lovely place! Residents get to walk by it at least once a day or take a quick stroll to the gazebo to relax.

2. Spacious rooms

Each suite has a small foyer area with a sink, a bathroom, a separate shower room, and two spacious bedrooms. The dorm rooms are big enough to fit at least four more beds! Living in such a comfortable setup makes dorm life seem not so bad after all.

3. Right in the heart of campus

Lakeview lies right in the middle of campus. It is next to the library, close to the gym, near many academic buildings such as Jepson, Weinstein, and Ryland, where several liberal arts courses are held. Most importantly, it is not a far walk to delicious restaurants like Passport, Tyler's and Lou's!

4. Home of SSIRs

A unique fact about Lakeview is that it mainly houses students which are part of Sophomore Scholars in Residence programs (SSIR). SSIRs enable students to live together, take classes together, and travel together. Belonging to such a community is certainly something special, and enhances the learning environment.

5. Everything you need right in one building

Other lovely features about Lakeview include its additional rooms. It can be a drag waking up from an afternoon nap and having to walk across campus for class. Lucky for Lakeview residents, some SSIR classes are held right in the building's classroom! There are also additional study rooms and lounges for students to hide away during exam week and collaborate throughout the year. Last but not least, there is a kitchen that can be rented for some fun baking and delicious home-cooking!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
