5 Reasons why January is the Monday of All Months

The first couple days of January might leave us feeling exciting and fresh, but what happens after that when all of the excitement dies down? You mean we actually have to finish the month of January? You soon come to realize( Dun Dun Dun) that this is only the beginning of another long year...

1. "New Year, New Me."

The most popular phrase that comes flying out of our mouths as we commence 2016. Why not make a New Years resolution? Everyone else does it...and if you want to set a goal for yourself, now is perfect time! So let the gyms be flooded and diet trends be started! For now anyway...Your "resolution" might be easy to promise yourself before you've started, but a week later when you're still running on that treadmill and choosing apples over chips you begin questioning yourself about this new settlement you've made with your past self.

2. Back to School...

Whether you're in high school or college, you've completely and gladly abandoned anything accommodated with the term "learning." You're completely okay with never seeing any of your instructors, annoying classmates, or piles of school work ever again. But guess what? It's already time to immerse yourself back into it all. Turn the switch back on in your brain and get ready to have your stress, emotions, and knowledge pushed to the brim yet again!

3. Recovering yourself as a well being from the holidays

Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years have all been fun, yes, but it's all over now. Whether you spent the holidays eating Aunt Barbara's famous sweet potatoes, or drinking to the point of considering yourself an alcoholic, it's time to get back on your high horse and ride back into the real world. No you cannot be a pig or an alcoholic forever, so take those giant "2016" glasses off your face, and get off of the couch where you've been hungover and binge watching Netflix for 3 days.

4. Crawling yourself out of the "Help me, I'm poor" sinkhole.

After spending buckets of moolah on your significant other, friends, family, or yourself, you soon come to realize that yes, your rent is still due, and no your parents didn't forget about the money you borrowed from them last month. You might have to sell your soul to repay the damage you've done this year. Hopefully it'll be better next year(but probably not.)

5. And finally..Yes, you must go back to work

This one is for all of you who have a full time or a stable job. While spending a few days(or a week) off felt like it zoomed by, yes it's already time to go back. The emptiness of a low paycheck awaits you along with no more vacation time for you to lounge with. The only bright side of this may be your finally getting a break from your children who have clenched onto you for the last week and a half. As much as you love them, you're kind of glad to go back to your nice quiet office. It's time to get back on your feet and make it rain.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
