5 Reasons I'm Thankful For My Twin

Because being a twin is the best.

5 Reasons I'm Thankful For My Twin

Now, don’t get me wrong, having a twin does have its downfalls. However, the positives definitely outweigh the negatives. My sister and I have always been close, but I think these past years at college have brought us so much closer. So, here are five reasons I consider myself blessed to have a twin.

1. You get to share clothes

Basically, you have two closets. This does get hard when we both are at college, but during breaks and summer I know that If I don’t have something, my twin sister will. This goes for shoes, makeup, and everything else you could think of. Sometimes, when we go shopping each of us buys half the outfit so we know we can share.

2. You have twin telepathy

This, my friends, is no joke. My sister and I have had some pretty cool encounters with this. In the first grade, Blaine fainted in one classroom and five minutes later I was sent to the nurse complaining of a bad headache in a totally different hallway. Just this past year, we both wore the EXACT same outfit to classes one day, 7 hours away, without planning. We also finish each other’s sentences all of the time. You probably won’t believe me unless you’ve experienced this, but we have moments like every day.

3. There is always competition

Now this doesn’t seem like fun, but I can tell you having a twin has pushed me to excel more. With both of us being athletes (although involved in different sports) in high school, we loved competition. People without even realizing it compare you all of the time. While this can get a little overwhelming, it also makes you work harder. In the classroom, on a sports team, and just in general I always have loved having someone to encourage me, while inspiring me to do my best.

4. You have an eternal sleepover

What could be better than that? Even though we live in different rooms now, my sister and I always used to sleep in each other’s rooms. While I am not sure if it was fair that I was always stuck on the floor, I lived for those days where we would finish a season of PLL in one weekend. Are you ever bored at home? Sorry, I can’t relate. We usually just walk into each other’s rooms, sit down on the bed, and start talking.

5. You have a lifelong best friend

No one really understands besides twins. You pretty much have a replica of you, and you spend virtually every minute together from when you were born until you leave for college. They are always there to pick you up when you are down, defend you in family fights, and most importantly give you a hug when you need it most. Although my sister and I get into fights, she is the only person in the world I never get tired of hanging out with. From our chipotle and mall dates, to baking desserts in our kitchen, there is no one I would have rather have grown up with.

So to my sister, Blaine, thank you for always being there for me. Although you are 7 hours away from me at college, you are still my best friend. We talk basically every day, and I am so proud of everything you are doing at college. I don’t know what I would do without you, and I hope you know how much you mean to me always. Being a twin isn’t always fun, but If I had to choose someone to be exactly like me, I would choose you a million times over.

If I have learned one thing in my lifetime, it is that friends are a privilege. No one is required to give you their company and yet there is some sort of shared connection that keeps you together. And from that friendship, you may even find yourself lucky enough to have a few more friends, thus forming a group. Here are just a few signs that prove your current friend group is the ultimate friend group.

When it comes to television, there’s very few sets of on-screen siblings that a lot of us can relate to. Only those who have grown up with siblings knows what it feels like to fight, prank, and love a sibling. Ross and Monica Geller were definitely overbearing and overshared some things through the series of "Friends," but they captured perfectly what real siblings feel in real life. Some of their antics were funny, some were a little weird but all of them are completely relatable to brothers and sisters everywhere.

Her sister was a member, her mom was a member, all of her aunts were members, and her grandma was a member. She has been waiting her whole life to wear these letters and cried hysterically on bid day. Although she can act entitled at times, you can bet she is one of the most enthusiastic sisters.

Every kid in college and/or high school dreams of summer the moment they walk through the door on the first day back in September. It becomes harder and harder to focus in classes and while doing assignments as the days get closer. The winter has been lagging, the days are short and dark, and no one is quite themselves due to lack of energy and sunlight. Let's face it: life is ten times better in the summertime.
