5 Reasons I'm Excited For School

I can't wait for it.

Summer is great for many things: part-time jobs, unlimited Netflix, and time to just relax. College is hard, demanding, and intense. So, it makes sense why students celebrate summer vacation. And, as much as I love summer and the idea of no homework, here are 5 reasons why I'm ready for school to begin.

1. My Roommate

I can't wait to move back into the dorms because I get to have a sleepover for almost five straight months with one of my best friends. It means more inside jokes and 2 A.M. life advice. My roommate introduces me to different Broadway musicals and I tell her many useless yet interesting facts. She's one of the best parts about my college experience and helped me get through my freshman year.

2. My Classes

Though I'm less than excited about the inevitable homework, I don't have the frustrations of dealing with Gen Eds this semester. I actually feel like I'm taking progressive steps towards my future and desired career.

3. Late Night Fast Food

There were countless times last year when my friends and I would go to Culver's to get custard. When it was past 10 p.m. and Culver's was closed, we'd even go to the 24-hour Walmart to get chips and soda. Sometimes we'd simply go to the closest gas station to get a slushie. These little trips lasted 20-30 minutes but allowed us to have a much-needed study break. They were filled with laughter, blaring the radio, and relief to get off campus for a bit.

4. Cafeteria Food

I know, I know, cafeteria food can be cold, a little old and even sometimes plain gross. But, nothing sparks creativity and ingenuity like trying to turn caf food into a well-balanced meal. Usually, I would settle for having one complete meal by the end of the week. Monday, I had potatoes, and on Tuesday I ate some carrots. Wednesday, I ate a couple of chicken strips, and Thursday and Friday consisted of Spinach salads. So really, by the time Saturday came around I technically did have at least one balanced meal.

5. Incoming Freshmen

I know it's cheesy, but I'm thrilled to meet the new freshmen. I can't wait to see what it's like to be on the other side, and watch them figure out their first year of college. I wonder which freshmen girls will join my sorority and which freshmen boys join my friends' fraternities. All the traditions of my college they'll experience for the first time, the mistakes they'll make and the lessons they'll learn.

I'm really excited for the school year.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
