5 Reasons High School Football Beats All

It's late October, and you know what that means. Football season is in full swing, and it's about that time when the playoff brackets come out. Although college football is always a favorite, there is definitely something special about high school football that everyone should get the chance to experience.

1. Home field is a place for the community to unite.

No matter who you are, come Friday night everyone is packed into the same stadium. Whether you are a republican or a democrat, catholic or leuthern, at the football game we are all on the same team. Everyone experiences the same feelings of excitement as we await kickoff.

2. You know the players on a personal level.

In high school, the players on the field are the same guys you walk the halls with and sit by at lunch. These are your classmates and your friends. To the community, these are the guys they will see in town while getting groceries that greeted you with a friendly smile. We root for their success because everyone knows and cares about the players.

3. The concessions are reasonably priced.

If you have ever been to a college game, you know that if you get hungry you better have a twenty-dollar bill to spend at the concession stands. In high school, you can pay just three dollars for a slice of pizza and a drink. Praise the Lord! Also, the lines are not near as long which makes life great.

4. Fans are close to the action.

At the high school stadium, we are close to our players. It is easy to see every single play that happens. This makes the game much more intense since the fans get so into the plays. Whether it is a defensive player that just sacked the quarterback or witnessing the biggest catch of the game, it's all the better because we are close.

5. Girlfriends get to rock the jerseys.

The best part of the game for the girls is getting to wear the girlfriend jerseys. When you are dating a high school football player, there is nothing better than wearing his name and number on your back at the game. Plus, this is the only time it is ever okay to wear the same piece of clothing week after week on a Friday night.

As the season changes from pretty fall leaves to cold winter snow, we miss those nights under the lights cheering for the boys we all love. We patiently wait for next year to roll around beacuse high school football will always have a place in our hearts.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
