Everybody knows that me knows that my favourite TV show of all time is Gilmore Girls. It's the only show I own all the seasons of and have seen every episode more times then I think I know. The show was a staple of the mid 2000's, but it's still relevant nowadays... as we can tell by the reboot (yes, I'm beyond excited for that). Here's some reasons Gilmore Girls is still relevant and will always be amazing.
1. They don't have to have a man.
Our beloved Gilmore Girls don't have to have a man in their lives to live and thrive. After Jess, Rory is perfectly fine and enjoys Europe with no strings. Even Emily lives her life without Richard for a short (painful) time. Lorelai, who always seems to have a man, lives without men. Yes, breakups happen in the Gilmore world, and our girls handle it appropriately. They may take some time, but eventually they wallow and get over it.
2. The references.
I read somewhere once that Gilmore Girls scripts are double the pages of a normal drama because of all the fast-talking dialogue. The dialogue that's full of references. Sure, the references are dated (some were back then too), but everybody should appreciate the references.
3. The small town.
Star's Hollow is the definition of a lot of small towns and growing up in a small town, many of the things ring true. Quirky neighbours, odd business owners, and the relationships are all similar to a real small town. Even the whole "town obsessing over things" is true.
4. The relationships.
There's a relationship in the show for everybody. When I was a "misunderstood teenager," I was Lorelai and my mother was Emily and I was just looking for my Luke. Now I may be turning into more of a Rory and I don't know who I'm looking for.
5. The dreams.
The show taught me so much from pop culture references to tips to live my life. But one thing I've always taken away is to dream, but not be afraid if the dream changes. When we first meet our girls, Lorelai dreams of opening and inn and Rory dreams of Harvard. Lorelai opens her inn and Rory's dream changes to Yale then enhances to just being a bad-ass journalist. The girls (and many other people) held onto their dreams through thick and thin and changes until they achieved them.
Gilmore Girls was my life growing up and has obviously influenced who I am now. I'm hoping the revival stands up to my dreams, but no matter what; I love the girls.
Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life will air on Netflix Nov. 25, 2016. All 7 seasons are also currently streaming.
