5 Reasons to Finish Strong

You really can do it.

It's just past the middle of the semester and you are ready to be finished with the classes you have. Maybe you are just excited to go home and see your friends and family for the holidays, or maybe you just are ready to never see a certain professor again. Whatever the reason you don't want to do anymore work, I have five reasons to keep going strong to the finish.

1). Scholarships

In high school, you were told to work hard and keep your grades up so that you could get scholarships for college. Now, you aren't working so much to get scholarships, but you are working to keep your scholarships. For a lot of people, scholarships are the only reason they can pay to go to school; you have to work to hard so that you can continue to go to school without having to pay as much (or for the lucky few, even none at all.)

2). The Dean's List

Everyone wants to be on the Dean's List at their school. It shows not only your friends, family, and peers that you are excelling; it lets the people in the community know that there will be some amazing adults coming out of your school that will excel at life. The Dean's List gives you something to work for that is closer than graduation. If graduation is a month away - or four years away - it's nice to have some short term goals to work for until you get to graduation.

3). The Break

When you work hard and finish strong, the break at the end will be much more appreciated. You will feel as though you deserve the break more because you worked hard to get there. Also, the break will help you let go of all of the stress and make it so that you can be ready to come back for more. You can soak up those few short, Netflix-filled weeks in peace.

4). Family Pride

Its always nice to know that your family is proud of you. They will be proud of you anyway, but it will feel better the more you work for it. Hearing people say that they are proud of you is one thing, seeing it in their eyes makes it so much better. So, work hard these last few weeks, so that you can enjoy your break even more and see the pride in your families eyes when they hear just how amazing you are.

5). Graduation

Finishing a semester strong means you are one step closer to the day that you will be given the degree you have been working so hard for. You will want the best grades so that you are more appealing to future employers in your field someday. Business owners don't want people who made "C's" all the way through college; they want the people who made 'A's.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
