5 Reasons Fall Break Is A Blessing In Disguise

Fall break is a weekend long weekend at some point in the first semester that gives you a few days off. Most people do not really do anything for fall break. It's a time to go home and see your family and just relax. It always seems that fall break comes at the perfect time in the year. Here are five reasons why fall break is a blessing from the lord above:

1. You get to catch up with your friends from home.

You get to see how your friends are doing in school and get to catch up on everything that has happened up until now. It's a good time to talk to those friends that you have not been talking to regularly. You get to complain about your life and they get to complain about theirs.

2. You get alone time.

You love your friends at college and love living with them. However, sometimes it seems like you are never alone, and like someone is always with you. It's a good thing, but everyone needs their alone time. You need to be alone in your own bed being a potato and just watch Netflix. Even if you do not go home for the break, it's still nice to be alone.

3. You take a break from drowning.

School is hard. College might be the best time of your life and is really fun, but classes suck. You are drowning and it seems like no one is trying to help. Fall break is the long weekend where you do not have to do anything. It's also a weekend that you get to catch up. Throughout the semester, it might seem like no matter what you do there is always something that you're behind in. Fall break gives you a chance to not only catch up but work ahead.

4. You get to spend time with your family.

Even if you are not homesick, seeing your family is refreshing. Fall break is a short amount of time to spend time with your family and you get to leave as soon as they start getting on your nerves again. No matter how hard you fight it you miss your mom and dad. You miss seeing your family and just having a good time and being able to be your true self. You do not need to put makeup or try at anything. You get to wear your pajamas all day and get to eat anything you want.

5. You get to sleep in.

Sleep is something that you definitely do not get when you are at college. You are either up late studying or doing anything else but sleeping. It also feels like in college, no matter how much you sleep, you are still tired. Fall break is the perfect time to sleep in and go to sleep early. Sleep is a beautiful thing.

Fall break may seem pointless to some but seems like heaven to others. Fall break always seems to come at the perfect time, right when you feel like you just need to see your family or get away for a few days.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
