2017 seems to be flying by. Just yesterday it seems like it was winter break and we were all at home, watching Christmas movies and drinking hot chocolate. It's a surreal feeling that in a couple of weeks we'll be released for spring break. For most of the years of my life, I was fortunate enough to take an actual vacation for spring break. Most years it was to Florida, the always popular spring break destination. But this year is different. This year I'm going home for spring break and I could not be more excited and here are the 5 reasons why.

1. My Bed

Thank you sweet baby Jesus, I get to see my bed. I feel like most people can relate that even though your school bed can be somewhat comfortable, there is NOTHING like jumping into your REAL bed and sleeping for 10 hours straight. You just love being in your room, cause it's YOUR room. Nothing beats the feeling. And lastly one of the best feelings in the world that comes along with sleeping in your bed, is not setting an alarm. No more 6:55 alarms for your 8 a.m.! Honestly, a tear might be shed when this monumental event happens.

2. Netflix

Now that most of your midterms are over, you finally get a chance to have a small break. And let's be honest, most of that "break" will most likely be spent binge watching your favorite show on Netflix. No shame though. You put in your time studying for those midterms you deserve to do nothing for at least a couple of days. And if your "nothing" is binge watching netflix shows, then dang flabit, you watch those shows and don't let anyone stop you.

3. Favorite Home Restaurants

Sleep, and Netflix, the only thing missing is.... FOOD! I can not wait to go home and eat at some of my favorite hometown hot spots. Don't get me wrong, as much as I love those crackfries from Hopcat, that Mac and Cheese from Little Joes in Grand Blanc, Michigan is unbeatable. (If you are from GB you totally understand what I'm talking about). You can't beat good hometown food.

4. Chilling with your family

After going being away from your family for a while, sometimes what you need is to just hang out with them. Go shopping with your mom, watch TV with you dad and bug your siblings endless to remind them that you are indeed the older child. Put down your phone, talk and hang out with your family. It's something that I've learned to appreciate this year.

5. Realizing that your just that closer to summer.

Being at home, you have a lot of time to think. Thoughts and plans will continually swirl around your mind. Something that's been on my mind lately is summer. To be honest, spring break is a short tease for the upcoming summer. Nothing sounds better than hanging out in your hammock, reading your book and not having a care in the world. Everyone can agree that summertimes in Michigan are bomb, and being on spring break just means your one step closer to those long, warm, summer days of just realaxing.

If you're not going anywhere for spring break this year, don't think of it as the worst thing in the world! Because it's actually the opposite, you'll see that it's just what you need.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
