For some of us, there's maybe a week left for winter break and the second semester has basically arrived. For others, you may have some more time, but at the end of the day there's no avoiding the return to school. You might be dreading it (or impatient for it), but whatever the case may be, there are so many reasons that you should be pumped to get back into the swing of things! This is another test of our independence and a positive outlook is the best way to ensure a more enjoyable tie. Here are the 5 Reasons to Be Excited for Second Semester.

1. Ability to choose your schedule

No one can tell you when to eat or when to clean your room. It's a free for all basically. There's nobody you need to answer to (besides your professors) and your mom can't yell at you for staying up until the wee hours of the morning. It's fantastic.

2. Time with friends who live far away

When you go to college you're surrounded by people who do not live within a couple miles of you. It's quite a pain really, but as soon as you're back on campus you get all the time in the world with them. In fact, the distance between you and your new friends is probably the most difficult part about breaks.

3. A chance to boost your GPA

If you weren't happy with your GPA at the end of the first semester, there's another one to try and edge it upwards a bit. It's a reminder not to give up because the year isn't over yet.

4. New classes and new people

It's impossible to know every single person on campus, so new classes most likely means a whole new set of people. For social butterflies, and anyone else searching for more friends, this is thrilling.

5. More time to be independent

You do your own laundry, clean your own room, wash your own dishes, get your own appointments made, etc. No one is around to do those things for you so ultimately you get to learn how to "adult" with the cushion of the people around you and some of the services your college probably provides. And at this point, you should mostly have the hang of it.

So overall, the second semester will be awesome. Keep your heads up and remember these fives thing if you start to feel your positivity flop. Good luck!

The Battle Between College And My Mental Health

College isn't easy, and I'm afraid I'm not going to make it at the rate my mental health is going.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?
