So far, little is known about Disney's next big animated picture, "Moana." Despite it being scheduled to come out this November, there has only been one trailer and limited concept art and music. However, there is enough known about the upcoming film to start getting pumped for it.
1. The animation looks beautiful.
Oh. My. Gosh. The animation. It looks fantastic. Just amazing. What we have seen is pure beauty. The shots of the water are simply mesmerizing and pretty much every shot from the trailer could be a painting. If it is anything like Disney's previous ventures into the Polynesian Islands, it should be just amazing.
2. It is coming from Disney legends.
Directed and written by the same team that brought The Princess and the Frog, there is no way that either Moana's story will be anything other than amazing. The story of a young adventurer connecting with her family's past already seems interesting and fun. Moana should probably hold up to Disney's previous animated features.
3. Disney's first Polynesian princess.
Though we previously had the amazing Lilo and Nani, neither of them really fit the princess bill. But from what we can see, Moana looks like she'll fit right in with the other royal ladies. It will be a much needed change, since the last four additions to the princess lineup were white. Most of the lineup still remains white.
4. The cast.
"Moana" features newcomer, Auli'i Cravalho, who is adorable and looks to be very talented, and Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson, who is also extremely excited about his role. Of course, Disney favorite Alan Tudyk is also cast in the new film. We still don't know most of the cast, but those three alone are going to knock it out of the ballpark.
5. The music.
The music is was written by none other than Lin Manuel Miranda of "Hamilton" and "Star Wars" fame. If he wins an Oscar for his work on "Moana," he will have an EGOT: an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and a Tony. So far, what we have heard of the music sounds great. He even lent his voice to the trailer and might be bringing along Hamilton co-star, Phillipa Soo.
Though Disney has released some less than good films in the past, they have always been at the forefront of cinema and animation, and "Moana" is going to be up there with many beloved Disney movies. A film about family and adventure, whats not to love? I predict that come November 2016, this movie will be blowing up your newsfeed. And even if it is not, it will still be a fantastic movie.
