1. To get your tango on, duh.
No but seriously, every Zumba class plays a lot of different types of music. There is pop music, hispanic music, remixes, electronic dance music and anything else under the sun that the instructor discovers that week. The hispanic woman on your left and the electronic dance fanatic on your right are a solid unit when the cha cha slide comes on.
2. You realize just how awkward you are.
Which is so refreshing. You're in this Zumba class and you realize just how long your legs actually are and that you can in fact do the cha cha slide. The girls and guys are judging you from the safety of the weight lifting rack but you dont care. You are in your safety zone, amongst a dozen and more different people who look just like you, who are doing just the same dances as you and who are having just as much fun as you.
3. It's like a public speaking class, only for your body.
Everyone's got to do it, public speaking, at one point or another. You have to get up there, express yourself and sweat in front of a ton of people. I don't care if you're the tip top public speaker in the world, you're still going to be nervous it is only natural. When you're at Zumba you're doing a whole other kind of expression and you're doing it out loud with other people. This is your sancuary. You're all for the world to see, The Cha Cha slide and all. You are putting yourself out there, dancing away.
4. You will learn to laugh at yourself.
Life is a little bit like Zumba, actually it's a lot of bit like Zumba. The more you think about the steps that you have to take, the more you start to fumble over your own feet. You will fall and fail if you do this. If you can't laugh at the way your legs look when your right foot decides to go left and your left foot decides to go right then you will have trouble in this Zumba class and in this life. Learn to let go and let dance.
5. Zumba is actually great for your health.
Mental and physical. Zumba is great for toning and achieving the legs of your dreams. The dance moves consist of mostly leg work (obviously). There are lots of lunges and squats and jumping up around and quite frankly just dancing. Not only can you tone your legs but if you add weights into the equation you will start to see muscle growth on your arms. Overall, Zumba is just hands down a great way to mentally clear your head and let go of the day's weights, and grab physical weights and achieve the body of your dreams.
Go to Zumba, you won't regret it.
