5 Reasons Why I Think Everyone Should Go Away
theodysseyonline

By now everyone should have started college. Some decided to stay in their hometowns and others decided to go away for college. Now I know that this is going to cause a debate, but I strongly believe that everyone should go away for college given the opportunity to.

Many of you who disagree with me might be reading this right now saying she's only been in college for two weeks. What experience have she gained from only stepping foot on campus for just two weeks? Believe it or not a lot.

Now when I say given the opportunity, I mean that if your parents is okay with you going away then by all means go away. When I mean go away, I don't mean fly across country and go super far. I mean, that to be in a different state or area that you're not use to.

1. The Freedom.

I've done things in college in the last two weeks that I probably wouldn't have done back home. No, it's nothing illegal. But, I mean I would have never had the chance to attend a party that started 10 P.M. and be allowed to walk back into my parents house at 4 A.M. Living on my own (without my parents constant watch) has grown me up a bit and made me experience the pre-adult life I've been wanting to experience. Not only that, but the freedom have matured me a bit. It has given my parents lessons and parenting ways a test to see if they have grown me up the right way. And, they have because even with the amount of freedom I now have... I know from right and wrong.

2. The People.

When you go away you meet all sorts of people. I've gotten the chance to meet people from Philly, from Jersey, from Miami, from China! It's different. It's amazing to be able to attend school with people who are from different cities and countries. Believe it or not, all the cities are different in there own way. I even realized that I had a New York Accent. I think that if you end up staying at home then you're not going to be exposed to different people.

3. College Parties.

Can I say more? I will. The second weekend of college I had the best ever weekend. I ended up having so much fun that I came to the realization that if I stayed back home then I'd probably be on my couch watching Hulu.

4. The environment.

The environment change is needed. It's very fundamental to the college experience. It's exciting and it's so much more to do when you're in a different environment than being back home.

5. The experience.

I am a little homesick, but I love college. It's been two weeks and the experience is starting to grow on me. I think that it's completely different when you go away. It may be the same in some ways but it differs much more.

Now don't get me wrong. If it's your choice to stay then that's on you. I understand that some people stay back home because finances. However, if you're given the opportunity to then go away. Get the ultimate college experience. The frat parties. The football games. The basketball games. The dorm experience. It's just something about it.

Everyone given the chance to should go away.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
