Terrell Owens has recently tried to make another comeback in the National Football League. Reaching out to the Philadelphia Eagles on Twitter, Owens is ready to ball. Terrell Owens, notoriously known as T.O., has been out of the league since 2010. Despite this, he says he is still ready. T.O. held a large scouting event for himself, inviting all of the teams in the NFL, but not a single team attended. While he is 42-years-old, he seems to still be in shape for the league.
Here are a few of the reasons he should have another shot:
1. Poor Receiving Core
The Eagles led the league in dropped passes in 2015 with 37 drops on 620 targets. This season, they are in 3rd place, behind the Detroit Lions and the New York Jets. The Eagles still have an outstanding 16 dropped passes on 310 targets. They also fail to have a star receiver. While Jordan Matthews is good, he is not a true "Number 1." Nelson Agholor is one of the most hated players on the team after his many poor showings, and Dorial Green-Beckham has been unable to perform at the level expected thus far. It is incredible that Carson Wentz has been able to look like a star with his receivers unable to haul in routine catches.
2. T.O. Can Take A Hit
When T.O. last played, defenders were free to hit however hard they want. In current football, hitting too hard is a flag (unless the player is Cam Newton). The equipment has also come a long way since T.O.'s last down. Helmets are more padded, pads are bigger and more effective. T.O. is a big, strong guy still able to endure hits.
3. T.O. Is No Enemy Of The Endzone
Terrell Owens had 153 touchdowns in his career. This man is not foreign to the endzone. He had the ability to run great routes and stay on his feet. Even more important than his route running, he had great hands. He probably still has the ability to do all of this, maybe just lacking a bit of his old speed. T.O. deserves at least the tryout.
4. The Best Endzone Celebrations
From celebrating on the Dallas Cowboys star as a 49er to the famous "eagle" celebration dance, Terrell Owens had the ability to score and then pump up the crowd with a joyous dance. Philadelphia Eagles fans are some of the best (and worst) fans in the NFL and Terrel Owens is the key to pumping up the crowd.
5. T.O. Put His Career On The Line For Philadelphia
In the '04-'05 NFL season, Terrell Owens put his career on the line for the Philadelphia Eagles. After a severe injury, Terrell Owens was unable to play for a few weeks but came back early. With a wrong turn of his leg, T.O. could have never played another down or could never have walked again. He returned and performed excellently in the Super Bowl that the New England Patriots cheated in.
Terrell Owens may not be a long-term solution for the Eagles, but with his strength and hands in the receiving core, Carson Wentz will have the ability to make more plays. This is why the Philadelphia Eagles should "make the call" and sign Terrell Owens.
