5 Reasons Why Dogs Are A (Wo)man's Best Friend

Dogs aren't only a man's best friend; they are also the confidants of many woman -- and there are countless reasons why dogs are a woman's best friend.

I decided to get a puppy to help with my depression, as I have learnt by research that pet therapy has promising affects on mental illness. If I could explain just how much pleasure my puppy has given me, I could continue for days. I consider him to be my best friend, my shoulder to cry on when I’ve had a bad day, and he has unquestionably and cursorily become an essential part of my life.

If you are a woman, looking for some companionship that is not complicating, demanding or stressful, you should genuinely consider adopting a pup.

Here are some, but not entirely all, of the reasons why a dog is a (wo)man’s best friend!

1. Unconditional Love.

One of the largest and unsurpassed reasons why dogs are a woman's best friend is the love that they offer. There are no questions asked; they ask for nothing in return (except maybe a belly rub) and there certainly isn't any perplexity tangled with the love that is given from dogs. They live to love and your dog will adore you unreservedly.

2. Companionship.

When you entertain a dog by your side, you will never feel lonesome -- that is assured. Whether you want to go for a hike, take a joy ride, or just rest on the couch and bum around, a dog will be an outstanding companion for anything it is that you desire to do – and more notably will be joyful and delighted to do whatever it is that you want to do.

3. Non-judgmental.

One of the principal weaknesses countless women have is the constant suspicion that they are being judged. With all of the hysteria surrounding models, celebrities and other vixens, no wonder so many women are endlessly judging and feel as though they are being judged.

Well, fortunately dogs are non-judgmental. They don't care how much money you make, where you live, what you do for a living or what kind of shoes you are wearing. You could be unemployed, wear not an ounce of makeup and sport a moth-eaten sweater, and a dog will make no judgments and love you just the same.

4. Fun.

Dogs are just so much fun. It is incredibly tough not to smile around a dog. They love to play, chase balls, go on walks and act silly with you. And, the fun that dogs like having doesn't cost an arm-and-a-leg to enjoy.

5. Instinctive.

Dogs have some of the greatest instincts, and these predispositions can really be a benefit to you! When I was distraught, my puppy immediately recognized it and sought nothing more than to comfort me. He coiled up in a ball next to me, licked me and tried to offer comfort in any way he could. They distinguish and sense when you are sad, happy, scared and frantic—and they do their best to help you.

Now, if you ask me, that is some pretty remarkable stuff!

Now that I have my best friend, I couldn’t envision my life without him.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
