5 Reasons Why DePauw Will Always Feel Like Home
Katherine Deighan

Most students dread the time when their summer is coming close to an end. This, though, is the not the case for most DePauw students. I think I can speak for most when I say that I couldn’t wait for the weekend when we would finally be back on campus. After a month of being back, I found myself more in love with DePauw than I ever thought was possible. There’s no other place I’d rather call home.

1. The People Are Like Your Family.

Because DePauw’s campus is only populated with a little over two thousand students, you tend to see and meet many familiar faces in a short amount of time. It’s a rare case for you to walk to class without seeing anyone you know. This small community quickly begins to feel like one large family.

2. Teachers/Staff Care For The Students As Parents Would.

Your teachers and advisors are like parents: they really do care for you and want you to succeed. Something unique to DePauw is the teachers take the time to get to know their students, they are almost always willing to find an available time in order to help you thrive in class.

3. You Have The Most Beautiful Backyard/Neighborhood.

DePauw’s campus is your most beautiful neighborhood. You’ll know your way around in just a couple of days and you’ll find your favorite spots to study, run or just hang out. Everything is walking distance too, which is a plus.

4. There Are So Many Activities For You To Be Involved In.

There are so many activities and organizations that you can get involved in that it makes it easy to do what you love or try something new. Whether it’s sports, dance marathon, different clubs or service opportunities, you will never get bored.

5. You Grow Into Your Best Self.

DePauw will help you be the best version of yourself. While school is can be difficult it makes you push yourself to put in that extra effort. The school allows you to be yourself and figure out who you are as an individual over the next four years. DePauw will help you grow and learn a lot about yourself through ups and downs, and I can guarantee you, you will not regret it.

Thank you, DePauw, for making me smile at just the thought of being home.

Sorority

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
