5 Reasons Dads Are The Coolest

Maybe we don't think they're as lame as everyone says they are

My dad is by far the funniest, most lively person to be around and I am so happy to even have the chance to say that. I look up to him as a person as well as a parent; one of the best compliments I could ever receive is when people tell me that I remind them of my dad. It means that I'm funny, compassionate, and hard working. What better qualities to get from someone you love? As lame as it may be to say, I think dads are the coolest.

1. They teach you to have a great sense of humor at a young age.

If it weren't for all the times I've seen my dad bulge out his stomach after a meal and claim he's the pregnant man, I don't know where I'd be. Seeing him stand up in front of the whole table, ready to lift his shirt and push it out, I could laugh until I'm in tears and I think my whole family is with me on this one.

2. Their laugh can be detected from a mile away.

I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've been to family parties and lost my dad amongst the large groups of people; all you gotta do is listen for the laugh and head in that direction. He has this genuine belly laugh that he howls out; it's so contagious even people in the other room are joining in. "Is that your dad?" Is a question I've learned to get used to throughout the years.

3. You get all your dance moves from them.

What better way to impress someone than to show off your dancing skills? You just have to pull out your dad's signature move and you're in: simultaneously pumping your fists and shaking your hips. It works every time, it's foolproof.

4. Their music taste rubs off on you.

I'm so thankful to have grown up listening to the music that my parents played. I've had the best time with my dad buying old records and looking through his tape collection; listening to him tell stories about the concerts he's been to. I can honestly say that this is a trait I'm really thankful to have gotten from my dad, not to mention it gives us something awesome to bond over.

5. They teach you to find yourself a good man.

Here it is, last but not least. I don't know about you but if there's one thing I've learned from my dad, it's that I won't settle for anything less than a man who makes me laugh, laughs a lot himself, and has a good taste in music as well as dance moves. Unless I find a guy who will hear me wake up in the middle of the night and come downstairs just to make me tea and talk, I don't want him. What more could a girl want?

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
