The friendships I have made in college are ones that I will never forget. Thank you. Thank you for the best friendships I ever could have asked for. We are with each other 24/7; we run errands, cry, eat, sleep, together. We were thrown into a brand new scary world of borderline adulthood and independence and you have been my rocks. You are my second family and for that, I am so thankful. Here are the reasons the friendships you make in college are better than any you’ve ever experienced.
1. College is full of ups and downs and they're there for it all.
Don't get me wrong, college is so much fun, most of the time. But sometimes school is hard, grades don't go as you hoped, and you feel somewhat lost in general. It's incredible to have a group of people that listen to it all, and are there even when you aren't at your best.
2. You do everything together.
College is uncharted territory. Suddenly you have to run your own errands and act almost like a real adult would. Your friends are all in the same boat with you, so errands become a fun activity. You do your laundry together, eat together, and with communal bathrooms, sometimes even shower at the same time.
3. You're in close proximity to each other.
My best friend is just two floors away from me. My hall is full of some of the greatest individuals I've ever had the privilege of meeting. No friend is more than a 5 minute drive away.
4. They help keep you on track.
It can be really easy to get distracted by all the fun college has to offer, but your friends are there to make sure you stay focused on what matters. And yes, sometimes that means a long night studying instead of going out. Your friends care about your success and well being, because we all have the same end goal of graduating (and hopefully in less than 6 years).
5. They're experiencing the same problems.
These are the friends that you'll spend hours together crying about your first chemistry test, a silly frat boy, or just college in general. When you're missing home, your family, or your dog, these are the people that make everything feel just a little bit better.
6. Boundaries don't exist.
After you've seen each other at the lowest of lows, there's really no reason to hide anything from each other. The good, the bad, and the ugly are all fair game.
7. You're growing up with each other.
You're in the same scary phase of life filled with uncertainty. They'll be with you as you apply for the dream internships, meet a husband-material guy, and learn more about who you really are. You're in this together, through it all.
