People pick a certain college for a multitude of reasons. Sometimes they choose a school because of parties, greek life, friends or a significant other going to the same school. My reasons may be one and the same or completely different. Here are 5 reasons I chose Michigan State University as my new home.
1. It was close to home.
I am very close with my family, so a school that was super far away was not an option for me. It was far enough for me to feel like I'm away, but not far enough for me to not be able to go home when I feel homesick.
2. The student body is awesome.
Michigan State has one of the most welcoming student bodies I've ever experienced. Even when I was not a student and just visiting, I never felt like I was an outsider. For rival football games, we still welcome our rivals with respect and love, because we're all human.
3. I felt at home.
My first visit to MSU, and I already felt like I was at home. I knew in my heart that this was the place that I belonged the moment I first stepped foot onto campus for my first visit. Even now, I feel at home.
4. I could afford it.
I applied to 8 different schools including MSU, two of them I was dying to go to, but only one of those two I could afford. I may have felt like I made a wrong decision at first, but I know now I would not have been happy there knowing I wouldn't be able to pay for it.
5. It's the most beautiful campus I've ever stepped foot on.
There is nothing like being able to see the trees around the Red Cedar change from green in September, to watching the leaves fall off them into the river, the icicles that form in the winter and budding leaves in the spring. The campus is one of the most calming places to be any time of year.
6. I can commute.
MSU may not have been my first choice initially, but I wouldn't go back to change my choice for anything.
