So if you randomly saw a 21 year old girl dressed up like a little girl with tons of makeup and wearing wigs that are two different colors, you might think she's really different or just trying to grab attention. What you won't guess is that her songs actually have dark, deep meanings that contrast with the pastel-colored toy world around her.

Take for example "Dollhouse". Although she wears cute dresses and plays with baby dolls, the song is about how families refuse to deal with problems and pretend everything is fine for show.

If you still aren't sold, here's five reasons to check out this unique beauty.

1. She's a natural rising talent

Melanie Martinez got famous after trying out on The Voice. After the fifth week she begin working hard on her own material and released her album Cry Baby. At 21 years old she is very talented, ambitious, creative, and original.

2. She's unlike anyone out there

Melanie is incredibly unique. Her voice, style, look, and artfulness are unlike anyone else out there. She's the only girl I know who always has her hair dyed two colors! She's very special and original. You can't really compare her to any other singers who are currently famous.

3. Her songs are imaginative and deep

At first her songs might just give you flashbacks of playing with toys, eating milk and cookies, and getting excited over things when you were little. Really, her songs have deep, often dark meanings mixed in with the more juvenile references.

4. She's been through a lot and speaks through music

Not everything in her songs is based on real life experiences. I mean, she clearly doesn't party with the mad hatter, poison people with milk and cookies, or think she's glued to a carousel. She has admitted in her interviews though that some of her lyrics are based on her real-life experiences, and you can tell from the sadness in many of her songs her life wasn't easy. They're very relatable to hard life events we or our friends had to deal with growing up.

5. You'll be inspired

Whether you're inspired by her beautiful voice, her talent, her makeup, her imagination, or her lyrics, I guarantee she'll spark some inspiration you. She's not afraid to be who she is and embrace being herself in her performances, interviews, and life. That alone is inspiration.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
